Book Description

November 16, 2010

Beautifully designed by a team of award-winning art book designers, Don’t Get Me Wrong: The Global Gestures Guide is a highly entertaining, useful and obscenity-free guide to the surprising world of everyday hand gestures. Two foreign correspondents have gathered everyday gestures from around 50 countries, from Australia to Zimbabwe. The results, beautifully captured in nearly 80 color photographs with only a minimum of text, are often amusing and always instructive. A cool and compact travel companion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mildly entertaining but hardly informative September 27, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is basically a picture book of a relatively small number of gestures accompanied by the meaning of them in different countries. If you're looking to give kids or young adults a cultural lesson that one gesture can have different meanings, this is an entertaining way to make that point. But this book is not for someone who plans to travel overseas and wants actual information. There are too few gestures and too few countries covered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and elegant April 10, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The complexity of human language its development and symbols including hand gestures is the stuff of science and text book. This book is not that book, thank goodness. Instead you take a global tour of language, culture and of, well Us. Through the use of simple, bold and minimal images and the translations of what these hand gestures mean around the world.

It is both informative and fun. And as a designer I have to admit I love the elegant look of the book. And as a traveler, I hope I can remember what to do and not to do with my hands when I am far from home.

I love this book! Don't Get Me Wrong!: The Global Gestures Guide

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Me Wrong! May 21, 2011

Format:Paperback
Poorly organized. Would have been more useful if organized to show different interpretations of a given gesture. Much irrelevant e.g. gesture women in Zimbabwe use for "thank you". A single star rating is too high.
