Editorial Reviews

Review

Jack truly shines as the writer, the performer and the all around artist on this fine third album release of his era at Qwest/ Warner Bros. Records....Check out his own tune Back Home Again....a nice pop song all the way around...harmonies, lyrics and vocal performance....great stuff indeed! --Joe Reagoso-Remaster Series Producer

Product Description

The Jack Wagner Remaster series continues with his third smash album from 1988 "Don't Give Up Your Day Job." Remastered from the original Qwest/Warner Bros vault tapes, these ten great vocal tracks were produced and written by some of the finest names in the business like Glen Ballard (Aerosmith), Quincy Jones, John Farrar (Olivia Newton John), Steve Barri, Diane Warren, Nathan East, etc. The fans have been screaming for this one and Friday Music is happy to oblige.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Difficulty Of Overcoming A Sterotype, November 1, 2008
This review is from: Don't Give up your Day Job (Vinyl)
Ok, I may lose all credibility here but I have to say that I love this CD. Jack Wagner's `Don't Give Up Your Day Job'. Released in '87 before his 'The Bold and the Beautiful' days when he was still co-starring in the other popular television soap opera `General Hospital.' This was his third album and having already gained some notoriety with his hit `All I Need' I think he was hoping that this would be his breakthrough album into a full-time musical career.

I'm certain Jack knew the odds were against him and realized he was still pretty much considered to be one of those "pretty faces" trying to play at being a pop star. He was also quite aware of the difficulty of making the jump from the television screen to the live stage of the musician and keep his sense of humor over the whole endeavor by making fun of himself in the title of this album by reminding himself not to give up his day job. I hope that display of humor wasn't just false bravado because things simply didn't work out as planned.

The lack of success with this album was unfortunate because in my opinion Jack was the exception to the rule. Though I have never heard a single song from this album ever played on the radio I consider this a marvelous collection that my wife and I never tire of listening to. My 20 year old daughter grew up listening to this music along with us and though she might be hesitant to admit it in public she's crazy about it too!

If you're in the mood for something upbeat, breezy and romantic you should really take a chance on this one, you might be surprised!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is Jack's Signature Album!!!, August 29, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Don't Give Up Your Day Job (Original Recording Remastered) (Audio CD)
This CD lets Jack show he was a good songwriter as well as singer. He co-wrote 5 tracks and I believe that this was a great way to show his talent. It just seems a shame that he didn't have videos for this album. That was what limited his popularity in his musical career. He had just left "General Hospital" and was looking to spread his wings, but for those of us who liked him musically, it just wasn't enough. I managed to see him on tour for this album and he put on a great show!!! Stand-out tracks to me are "Weatherman Says," "It's What We Don't Say," "Easy Way Out," "Common Man," which is one of the tracks he co-wrote, "Lovers In The Night," "It's Been A Long Time," and "Back Home Again." The fact that all 3 of the albums he released on Quest Records are now out on CD, being a true Jack Wagner fan, I am in heaven. It is great to relive my youth in putting these CD's on. Hopefully more people who get interested in Jack from hearing "All I Need" will decide to purchase this title as well as "Lighting Up The Night".
