Editorial Reviews

Entertainment Weekly
GP Wu flow smoothly from social commentary to hedonistic jams with a street style all their own. . . . Featuring four ace rappers trading rhymes over minimalist grooves, GP Wu maintain Wu-Tang's quality and gritty authenticity without jacking their sound. . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the essence of Wu, May 2, 2005
If you're not sure whether you should buy this album, find some way to get a hold of the song "Chamber Danger", burn it to CD, pop it in your car stereo, crank it up LOUD, and cruise the streets at night. Then lay down however much money it takes to get the whole album. The album is worth it for that song alone, but they rip it old school on half the tracks - see "First things first", "Hip-hop", "Underground Emporer", and the title track "Don't Go Against the Grain". I don't know who the producer is, but try to imagine what would happen if the RZA co-produced a bunch of tracks with Havoc of Mobb Deep. Off the hook? To say the least. The actual rappers are best described as competent; not the best thing ever to happen to the mic, but they all have a couple of rhymes up their sleeves and most importantly they're plenty gritty enough to deserve the epic production. Just buy it.
