Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Unlike many authors who write the same basic story again and again, McCarthy switches it up so that each book is different while still exhibiting her excellent ability to create characters readers feel connected to. Jamie Peters is the retro-hippy of her group of friends. Her wild, curly hair; rounded body; and long flowing skirts add to her earth-mother appeal. Unfortunately, the men who appeal to her are fixer-uppers who need her help. She is a social worker in New York, and one of her success stories, an ex-con transvestite who tells fortunes, predicts that she'll meet her soul mate. Enter Jonathan "Jack" Davidson, a former day trader who, after making millions, quits his job. They literally run into each other on the subway, and it's kismet, but Jack has a lot of secrets that he can't come clean about in light of Jamie's disdain for "suits" with money. Readers who enjoy lighthearted yet sensual tales will love McCarthy's latest. Maria Hatton

Product Description

Jamie Peters no longer believes in true love. True idiots, true scumbags, true moochers - these she believes in wholeheartedly, and she's got the checkered dating history to prove it. So she's more than a little skeptical when her cross-dressing psychic tells her she's about to meet her soul mate - during an accident. Yeah, sounds about right. And then it happens. A kinght in shining armor steps between her and a mugger on a subway platform. Just a regular, honest, upright Jack. The kind they don't make anymore...Jonathon Davidson doesn't believe in destiny - or lying to beautiful women as a rule. But now that Jamie thinks he's just an ordinary guy, how can he possibly tell her that he's really, her roommate's brother, a millionaire to boot, and the jerk who's investigating her application to his grandfather's charitable trust because she may be involved in something illegal? Yeah, rhetorical question. He can't. Not until he knows what's going on. Besides, it would require being able to resist Jamie's luscious curves long enough to say, 'Hi, my name is Big Liar. Let's get naked'. Sometimes, destiny sucks...

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Want To Know Jack!!!, October 27, 2006
This review is from: You Don't Know Jack (Paperback)
Free spirit Jamie Peters wants to believe in true love and happy endings but that just doesn't work for her. She is a social worker with a heart of gold and the penchant for dating all the wrong guys and then one night a tarot card reading predicts that she is going to find love in an accident. Well, months go by and no love, no accident and then when she least expects it she literally slams into her knight and drenches him in his dinner in the process. Now she finds herself falling hard for Jack and thinks he is just about as perfect as it can get...it's possible that love has found Jamie. But then the unthinkable happens. She finds out she doesn't know Jack. Will she give this heartbreaker a second chance?

Jack is working undercover and Jamie is his mark. She is his sister's best friend and when he meets her he is instantly spell bound by her curvy expressive self. Kissing her is the next best thing to heaven and it's all a lie. What will happen when she finds out the truth? It's a risk he is willing to take and the time to pay the piper comes sooner rather than later. Will she give him a second chance to prove it wasn't all a lie?

With Ms. McCarthy's trademark humor she pens a wonderfully entertaining romance that will steal the reader's hearts. Jamie and Jack are dynamic characters and their chemistry is sizzling hot yet believable. I love reading Ms. McCarthy as she always leaves me with a smile on my face at the end of her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read from Erin McCarthy!, September 24, 2006
By Laurie (OH - USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: You Don't Know Jack (Paperback)
Social Worker Jamie Peters has given up on ever finding true love. That is, until her psychic friend, Beckwith, predicts that her streak of romantic bad luck is about to change. Seeing how Beckwith is a six and a half foot tall male, usually wearing a dress, stilettos and full make up, some people might doubt his credibility, but Jamie has absolute faith in her dear friend. When a gorgeous stranger comes to her rescue on the subway, Jamie is certain that Beckwith's prediction has come to fruition. This man has all of the qualities she wants in a man, he's handsome, polite and thoughtful. One thing neither Jamie nor Beckwith considered were the several men in Jamie's life at present - her estranged father, this charming subway stranger, the co-workers and former prisoners in her office could it be that Beckwith has his psychic wires crossed?***** Jamie is no stranger to Jonathan "Jack" Davidson. He knows precisely who she is and deliberately staged their "accidental" subway meeting so he could get to know her better. Jack is investigating her agency and its request for funding from his grandfather's foundation. Something in the agency's books just doesn't appear to be on the up and up, and Jack suspects that someone in the office is involved with insider trading. His biggest problem with this mess is that he is intensely attracted to everything about Jamie - her mouthwatering curves, her sweet innocence, those sumptuous curves, her adorable freckles - and then there are those luscious curves . . . Jack suspects that she feels equally attracted to him. When the two of them act on that undeniable attraction, and spend an incredibly sensuous night together, Jack is in deeper than ever. He doesn't want Jamie to know who he is or that he suspects her of illegal activities, but she happens to be one of his sister's roommates the same sister who is getting married in two weeks, making it impossible for Jack to remain anonymous for very much longer.*****
Jamie and Jack are wonderful together both are sweet and kind, even if their backgrounds and social status couldn't be any farther apart. Secondary characters include a vast assortment of family and friends, all of whom play key roles in the storyline. Erin McCarthy has the unique ability to completely draw you into her books every single time. I completely lose track of everything around me when I'm reading her work. Do yourself a favor and get your hands on this book as quickly as possible, you'll have no regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate female fantasy!, October 30, 2006
By Bobgirl (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Don't Know Jack (Paperback)
What a joy to read a book where there are no tragic circumstances, no awful people doing awful things and no made-up misunderstandings. This was just a sweet, lovely book full of emotion and charm as only Erin McCarthy can offer. Somehow, she shows us how two very different people fall madly in love and learn to trust each other, while soothing away doubts and fears long held. Funny at times and intense at others, Jack and Jamie are satisfying and real characters.

I must say it was a bit of a female fantasy to read a man so desperately in love that he will resort to begging and pleading in order to win the woman's heart! Of course, the fact that he was gorgeous and filthy rich made it that much better . . .

Curl up in front of the fireplace with this witty and sexy book. You will fall in love it!

Congratulations, Erin! You've done it again!
