5.0 out of 5 stars He DOES Know What He's Doing....., November 24, 2005

Ever since the RIAA began suing twelve-year-old children for illegal file sharing, I've held a special place in my heart for true, independent musicians. The beautiful thing about artists who produce and distribute their own music is that they remain true to themselves and their creations. Because of this the music, in my opinion, is far more pure than an over-produced version of the same thing you've already heard a thousand times before.

I won't bore you with the details of how I discovered the one-man Canadian band, Brad Sucks, but I will immediately tell you that Brad "gets it" when it comes to creating an overall mood to his music and sound. Often compared to Beck, Moby, and Folk Implosion, I also recognize a resemblance to Lenny Kravitz ("Bad Attraction"), Marcy Playground, and Everlast ("Sick As A Dog").

Admittedly, it's easy to get thrown off by the lead track on BS's I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, "Making Me Nervous". For two and a half minutes, many will think they've just picked up the latest next phase, new wave, dance craze (thank you, Billy Joel). But make no mistake; the dance club sounding "Nervous" sets the tone perfectly for an album that is actually more rock than anything...containing a unique vocalist who has the ability to create an indescribable mood, a variety of instrumentation and melody lines, and a perfect mix of original lyrics comprised of both serious and sarcastic tones.

Other songs worth mentioning are the stop-being-so-damn-dramatic ballad "Overreacting", "Borderline", the mid-tempo "I Think I Started A Trend", and the late 90's alt-rock sounding "Dirtbag".

When one considers Brad's fun sarcastic style, it should come as know surprise that the self-proclaimed "one man band with no fans" is very laid back about his future as a musician. "I'd obviously love to make a living making music, but if the worst-case scenario is becoming a well-heard artist that never gets paid, I can live with that," Brad states on his website.

I'm not going to lie to our loyal Babbleonite readers. If you're looking for another whip-your-mom, eat-your-dog metal album, Brad Sucks will probably not be your cup o' tea. On the other hand, if you're ready for something a little different, a little calmer, a little cheaper, and straight from the heart, you should at the very least check out the Brad Sucks website.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Suck As Much As He Claims!, November 17, 2005
This review is from: I Don't Know What I'm Doing (Audio CD)
An acquaintance of mine on a messageboard pointed us towards this artist (I'm stealing her title for the review name). All of these songs are available for listening on the official Brad Sucks website: worldwideweb, Brad Sucks, .net ...and he also has remixes listed as well that people have made from downloading his songs free and then submitting them back so he could pick his favorites. Pretty cool!

4.0 out of 5 stars Present for younger sister, December 5, 2011

I heard a track from this album on Pandora a few days ago and immediately clicked over to see who it was and was very pleased to see the band name. My sister has a boyfriend that everyone in my family strongly dislikes and his name happens to be Brad! Once I found this album, it rounded out her 19th birthday present. Great music and a perfect name to boot!

Heard Brad sucks on Pandora- Couldnt get enough of the song that they played. I honestly thought this was another new artist that just came out, apparently hes been around for the last 10 years. The whole album is brilliant, Kinda reminds me of the Dandy Warhols.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, September 1, 2010

Rarely do I think modern albums are worth their price. In many cases a few good songs end up being flanked by "filler" tossed out to complete the project. This album is a true exception... Brad, you may suck, but this album is great. Wish the follow-up would have been the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars How good would you be...?, March 29, 2009

This is a collection of really catchy tunes. The people that I have shared this with have all come back to me with positive feedback. I have to say that this is not my kind of music. I am into the heavy stuff, but there is something about this guy's music that you just can't help to like. I mean I really, really like it a lot! All of this great music from a high school drop-out? My question is... If you don't know what you are doing, how good would you be if you did???

5.0 out of 5 stars The wrong people don't know what he is doing....., March 15, 2009

If they did, he would be a lot more popular. He is making some pretty good music, interesting videos, and I am glad to hear it. The best thing about music is you no longer need a big label to get attention. Otherwise we may not hear anything like this. It is worth you time to check it out.

I found him just by jumping around various musician's web pages and ended up at his page http://www.bradsucks.net Someone else described it perfectly as the rock/trance sound. I don't think I have heard a single song that isn't good, which is better than most CD's can do these days. You can buy single or full albulm MP3's on his site or here at Amazon. I wanted to buy both CD's immediately but shipping was a little high for me. Needless to say, I was sure glad to see this here at Amazon with free shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars I DONT' WANNA FEEL LIKE A JERK, June 12, 2008
This review is from: I Don't Know What I'm Doing (Audio CD)
hokay so like i recently discovered this amazing thing called jamendo and i have to give them props to helping me find Brad Sucks

because 1st off

jamendo = creative commons listen to musics

which is the first obvious thing that i love about Brad, this album is under creative commons, so technically its free and belongs to the community of fans that listen to brad

anyways

this album kicks major face and i felt bad for not actually buying the album so i decided to get it :)

probably my favorite song is "look and feel years younger"

and one of the nice things is that his sound is actually fairly distinctive in the sense that he manages to combine different genres in a way that is really effective. we have the trip-y-ness and the punk rock-y-ness and whatnot and its strangly nice listening to it all at the same time.
