5.0 out of 5 stars HUSKY, SUAVE, VERVE, "ROY HAMILTON", June 24, 2003
This review is from: Don't Let Go (Audio CD)
MY DEAR FREINDS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND WORLD, I IMPLORE YOU TO LISTEN TO (ROY HAMILTON) SO MUCH VOICE AND SUBTLE SOUL THAT I DID NOT KNOW A THING ABOUT.

IT IS A MARVEL WE HAVE THESE GREAT ARTISTS ON CD THAT SOME OF US WOULD HAVE NEVER FALLEN FOR.

I DARE ANYONE TO DISLIKE (ROY HAMILTON), ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT DISCERN HIS VERVE AND VELVET HUSKY (PERHAPS LUSTY) VOCALS----WOW:)

5.0 out of 5 stars An orthodox balladeer meets R&B, February 3, 2007
This review is from: Don't Let Go (Audio CD)
During the stay at the corporate Epic, Roy Hamilton left many orchestrated ballads and also some R&B sides. As for R&B fans like me, this compilation should be welcome because it is compiled in a R&B fan's point of view. Orchestrated R&B sound spawned by the conservative Epic is well suited to Roy Hamilton's rich baritone voice with a smooth vibrato. Especially his rockabilly sides are so cool. Such adult arrangements cannot be found so often in other R&B or R&R tunes. If you love hard-edged old school R&B, his sides should not suit you. If you listen a little more patiently, you can find the bud of the gospel-influenced Soul in him.

I brought this CD for my Mother for Xmas. She is very thrilled and enjoy listening to Roy Hamilton. It brings memories back of my Father when they were younger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elvis's lesser known inspiration, July 6, 2009

Most serious music fans will know of the reputed influence Dean Martin had on Elvis but maybe don't know of the huge influence Roy Hamilton had.If Roy Hamilton influenced Elvis then by extention he's influenced everyone who followed. This superb compilation goes a long way to showing us why he deserves our respect and why its time he was remembered again.

Highlights include (and there are many) the opener Don't Let Go a great rockin' r&b foottapper, Hurt (later a hit for Timi Yuri)which shows off his amazing voice as does his definitive version of You'll Never Walk Alone (listen to Elvis's version and the phrasing is almost exactly the same, nuff said!) and the joyful gospel swing of Jungle Fever.

All in this is a great salute to someone who is genuinely a significant part of musics past.
