Unlike Luther Vandross' "Any Love" album from the same year (1988), Freddie's "Don't Let Love Slip Away" contained no pop hits and its success was purely on the R&B charts. Despite including the Top 5 R&B hits "Nice and Slow" and "Hey Lover" this album went by mostly-unnoticed by mainstream pop record buyers and as such was not the crossover hit it should have been. It was, however, almost as good as Freddie's two previous albums with "Special Lady", "One Heart Too Many" and the heart-wrenching "It's Gonna Take A Long Long Time" being key cuts that were not released (sadly) as singles.

THIS MASTERPIECE WAS STOLEN FROM ME MANY YEARS AGO.I RECENTLY GOT MY HANDS ON THD CD,AND IT SOUNDS JUST AS GOOD NOW AS IT DID IN 1988 WHEN I FIRST GOT IT.THERE WERE SOME SONGS I FELT WERE VERY MUCH IGNORED.OF COURSE YOU HAD NICE'N SLOW,HEY LOVER,AND YOU AND I GOT A THANG,BUT THE 2 HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS ALBUM WERE DON'T LET LOVE SLIP AWAY AND MY FAVORITE SONG,YOU'RE A SPECIAL LADY.ALSO VERY MUCH LIKEABLE WERE IT'S GONNA TAKE A LONG TIME AND ONE HEART TOO MANY WHICH I COULD(personally)RELATE TO.IFELT AS THOUGH THIS WAS PROBABLY HIS BEST WORK OUTSIDE OF JUST LIKE THE FIRST TIME,AND IT'S TOO BAD THAT SONGS OFF THIS RELEASE RARELY GET ANY RADIO PLAY ON QUIET STORM STATIONS,BECAUSE THERE(truly)ARE SOME CLASSIC SONGS ON A TRULY CLASSIC LP.

IN MY OPINION--What a wonderful cd. Sorry but I am partial to Mr. Jackson. I have most of his cd's. He has a smooth voice and is so underrated. I wish the music industry would give this man the credit he deserves. His songs have substance.
