Awesome Read, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Don't Let Go (Navy SEALs, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Marliss Melton has to be one of my favorite new authors. She has only written six books but the last four about Seal Team 12 are great. She seems to have picked up where Suzanne Brockmann left us. I really like the stories about Seals, not only are they good guys but they are really putting their lives on the line for our Country. Her Seals are real men, men who can face the toughest of battle and the tenderest of emotions.
Soloman McGuire is a senior chief, he has faced the loss of his family and child when his wife ran off while he was on assignment. She wanted more than the life he could give her and she took his son with her. She has been gone five yrs and he has no idea where she is.
Jordan Bliss is in Venezuela attempting to adopt a young child she has grown to love, when there is a major coup. Jordan has not had an easy life, she has faced a cheating husband and the loss of a baby. She is determined to save one little boy.
Jordan's sister was a physical therapy nurse, she was there to pull Rafael Valentino back from death two yrs ago and now she calls him for help to save her sister. Rafe is with the FBI and shortly Seal Team 12 arrives to get Jordan, Soloman must pull Miguel from her arms and force her on the plane. He finds it hard to do but he is following orders.
Jordan fights and screams her way back home but she is determined to go back and get her child. Soloman can't forget the woman who would give anything even her life for her child.
The story is complex but brings the two people back togather, and Soloman slowly finds himself falling for Jordan, but even if she does fall for Soloman she will find a way to go back for Miguel.
I loved this book and look forward to many more from this wonderful author. Do not miss it, highly recommended.

I really like Marliss Melton's SEALs but..., March 30, 2008
This review is from: Don't Let Go (Navy SEALs, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm not adding a book synopsis - that has been done well in the first review. This deals strictly with my reading of the book.
There are too many characters packed into too small of a space. The romance between the main characters really didn't feel fully developed, because so much time was spent bouncing around to assorted characters. The addition of Jordan's sister, her pregnancy and her romance felt unnecessary and rushed.
Jordan was very wishy-washy - or maybe just not developed enough. Other than knowing that Solomon liked to do paperwork, I really didn't find anything really personal out about him in his daily life. Most of the development of his relationship with his son doesn't seem to be on the pages, it takes place between chapters. I felt I knew Ellie better than I did Jordan or Solomon.
Joe Montgomery was so well developed in Next To Die, I felt connected to him. Solomon didn't fair as well and I missed that connection.
With all of this said, it won't stop me from buying the next book, but I can hope for more character development. Just MHO.

great writing, suspense, and characters, March 26, 2008
This review is from: Don't Let Go (Navy SEALs, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I won't go into the summary since the synopsis and other review already covered that well.
The book is a great read and fast paced, which is important to me. There are the 2 main characters but also 2 other romance brewing. The author does a great job juggling the side characters, main characters, and children. I also like the way she reveals the characters' past slowly, the same way you get to really know someone.
We saw more of Lucy, who 'll probably be the heroine in the next book. I look forward to that a lot. Lucy is compared to Lara Croft, not a wimpy heroine.
The main reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because Jordan's naivite is irritating. So many strings were pulled to rescue her out of Venezuela the first time, then she went back in the middle of a coup a second time, even after Solomon already told her that he contacted someone there who will try to get her soon-to-be-adopted son out. Has it ever occur to her that she would hinder his rescue instead of helping, or that she would be risking other people's lives? Also, I don't understand why Solomon didn't allow Jordan to take Miguel the first time since she told him that she's already adopted him. Just didn't make sense especially after they already trekked through a forest.
