This review is from: Don't Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up (Audio CD)
"Don't Let The Stars Keep Us Tangled Up" is the first full length album from Nashville native Tidwell! She has a sound like no other and writes songs like no other.Pay no attention to the comparisons to Bjork! Cortney is a gateway to your own imagination, not a visualized canvas! What you hear is not always what you see...or get! Every song is unique and gives one the opportunity to feel, even if it's different upon repeated listenings! Give Cortney and this album a chance! She will become your new favorite drug!

Don't Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up is brilliant. It sets a palpable mood whenever it's on the stereo. I've been listening to it for years, and it's still not worn out its welcome. An absolute favorite.

Comparisons to Bjork, Hope Sandoval and Beth Orton are understandable. I must say though that Cortney Tidwell sounds very much her own artist. Her sound is well developed and singular to this listener's ears, with the exception of a couple moments where things get frighteningly Sundaysish. Even those are forgivable given the quality of material. I've deleted three out of the eleven tracks from my Mac and iPod and listen mostly to just seven of the remaining eight tracks... And I still think this is the best thing I've heard all year. 'Eyes Are at the Billions', Don't Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up', and 'The Tide' are miniature cinematic gems. 'The Missing Link', 'La La' and 'Our Time' are just as lovely. I'm hoping once my copy of her debut ep arrives I can cobble a good 45 minute mix tween the two with the best tracks. This is musical crack honestly. Not as devastating or long as my 2005 fave; the National's 'Alligator', but lovely lovely. Recommended highly for people who cherish their quiet dimensions.
