5.0 out of 5 stars No Lie, Monkey Business's Best Single
"Don't Lie", the second single, yet the least successful, is their best single off the album Monkey Business. It has a very decent beat that has nice violins at the beginning to a nice, Pop-R&B beat. The lyrics are encouraging not lieing. Fergie is pretty good at singing but the rest is better.

How does a rap group do a complete 180-degree turn from being called "the next A Tribe Called Quest" to being a lousy pop-music outfit? Just ask The Black Eyed Peas. I was surprised by their more commercially-minded sound when Elephunk dropped, but I still gave it a chance. But this is just ridiculous; "Don't Lie" is the biggest load of sugar-coated trash to hit the airwaves this year.

Now, suppose you told someone in 2001 that the Black Eyed Peas were going to eventually sell out. There's no way they would believe you, considering BEP was the anti-thesis of mainstream music back then. But with the addition of Fergie to the group, the results have been good for the Peas' wallets, but not much else. First of all, her pseudo-reggae singing, as displayed in "Don't Lie" as well as "Don't Phunk With My Heart" is downright horrid. I cannot stand gimmicks, and a white woman trying to fool people into thinking that she has a reggae singing voice is a downright idiotic gimmick.

But hey, what about those other guys in the group? Well, to put it bluntly, their lyrics are complete tripe compared to the pre-Elephunk BEP (especially Will.I.Am). I gave the Peas the benefit of the doubt on Elephunk, but their new music is just absurd.

Complete sugar-coated pop garbage.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm not going to lie here. It's good but could've been better., February 16, 2006

Alright, I'm rating this cd-single with 4 stars because, on one hand, I find the track "DON'T LIE" very good (5 stars) but the remix version on this cd is really poor. The original song became an instant hit around the world. Peaking at #14 in the US and #1 in several territories.
There's a never-released song called "SHAKE YOUR MONKEY", which is good but nothing really special. It really doesn't surprise me that didn't appear on the "MONKEY BUSINESS" cd. Finally you have the video for the original version of "DON'T LIE". The video is very good.
So, if you like this group, I'd say to buy this cd. If you just like the song and you're looking for some good remixes, I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend the "MONKEY BUSINESS" cd instead even if it doesn't include any remixes but the songs are great.

See, after Don't Phunk short success, here it is B.e.P. with their most catchy single ever Don't Lie. Do you mis B.e.P. old style in Where Is The Love? Well, Don't Lie is a great try for you. The other tracks in this album also great. One thing that I really don't like is the video for Don't Lie. It is semi-animated and I hate hate that making-progress system. At least I can enjoy. If you don't like too catchy song like this, just wait until their new single "Pump It" come. It's a blast and really cool track!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars their best single (no lie!), August 29, 2005
This review is from: Don't Lie Pt 2 (Audio CD)
"Don't Lie" is a great single, much catchier and fun than "Don't Phunk With My Heart." The song has a relaxed, summery feel to it (check out the music video, which was shot in Brazil!) and the lyrics are catchy and infectious. Fergie's vocals seem really natural, similar to "Where Is the Love?" Their different styles clash in a good way on a mellow, laid back song about honesty in relationships.
