This band could/should have been very, very big!,
This review is from: Don't Look Back: Very Best of the Korgis (Audio CD)
Superb double CD from the vastly underrated Korgis. You might remember their tender, atmospheric 1979 hit "Everybody's got to learn sometime", three versions of which are included. There are many similarly appealing songs on this double CD set, which actually includes, in total, the entire contents of each of their three albums, plus four worthwhile extras. This music really should have reached a greater audience than it has so far managed to, since it's of genuinely high quality and the main influences on it (Beach Boys, Beatles etc) are not exactly esoteric. Admittedly the lyrical and musical whimsy of a few of the songs is somewhat unusual/eccentric, but that really shouldn't deter anyone from exploring this; for many people it adds to the undoubted charm displayed here. Very good quality transfer and useful, interesting sleeve information with many quotes from group members, as well as pictures of the sleeves of their single releases.

As other reviewers have noted, all three of the Korgis' LPs are on this CD, as well as the alternative lyric version of 'Everybody's Gotta Learn' and the solo single and instrumental b-side track by James Warren. However, comparing the times on my original single CDs of each album and this package, there are a couple of songs that have somehow been edited in length:from self-title LP: Cold Tea goes from 4:26 down to 3:54 from Dumb Waiter: If it's alright with you baby goes from 4:07 down to 3:49 from Sticky George: That was my big mistake goes from 4:37 down to 4:21 All the love in the world goes from 4:13 down to 3:45 and what I don't understand is...WHY??? both CDs run just about exactly 1 hour, so there was over 20 minutes left no each disc. There was no need to edit four songs by 30 seconds or less!!!

Korgis Return,

This review is from: Don't Look Back: Very Best of the Korgis (Audio CD)
In the early eightees there was this little band in England which sounds like Buggles (or did they sound like them?!), New Musik (who started at the same period) and tried to be funny and relaxed. I didn't knew that they made an album before Dumb Waiters (The Korgis) and I thought that EGTLS was their first single etc. Dumb me! But on this collection you'll get their 3 albums in chronological order plus some remixes of their well known hit-single. Also on this one is the 1982 single Don't Look Back and it's b-side Xenophobia. It's very cheap for the music that you get on 2 CD's. All digitally remastered. If you consider buying a Korgis CD... buy THIS one!

Underated Korgis,
This review is from: Don't Look Back: Very Best of (Audio CD)
The Korgis wrote some pretty good music, but its the melancholy and haunting Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime that makes this CD a must have. One of the most beautiful pop song recordings ever produced. Has a style and beauty similar to 10 CCs I'm Not In Love.

A Great Compilation of a pleasant excentric band,

Korgis was a band with a different kind of music. Sometimes excentric, sometimes so in love... this compilation brings all of them, really cause the three first albums are here completelly (except the excellent album This World's For Everyone from 1992). Some songs (2 or 3) appears here in single format, one of them is a very beautiful love song All The Love In the World. Great Song is Don't Look Back, song title of this compilation (it's a non-album song) the most in love song of Korgis. Great songs like that are too: That was My Big Mistake, If I Had You, Can't We Be Friends Now, Living On The Rocks, If It's Alright With You Baby , and a very happy: It's No Good Unless You Love Me. You must listen this tracks as they are great, and the other are likely greats too. Korgis was and is a great group!

these 2CD set includes Korgis collection from time to time, including a hard-to-find "Don't Look Back" (I have been searching for more than 20 years, but no luck)after listening their CD set, I'd say they're like late 70s group, like KC and The Sunshine band it also contains 3 different versions of "Everybody Gotta Learn Sometimes"
