3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book to read while sick
I don't know about you, but when I am not feeling good and having to take care of sick kiddos and hubby, let alone trying to get over the flu, the last thing you want to read is something heavy and profound. This book fits the bill. It's not a heavy thinking book. I didn't need to figure out how it was going to end because I knew how it was going to end but I didn't care...

They have been invited as one of the speaker acts but don't find until they get there that they are giving the course called "Investigating for Dummies". So it seems they are supposed to provide the comic relief for the convention even though they think they are great investigators. There are some laugh out loud scenes and the characters aren't too corny. A very entertaining story.

5.0 out of 5 stars culture war between rural Texas and urban Manhattan, June 1, 2008
This review is from: Don't Make Me Choose Between You and My Shoes (Paperback)
Although they were second choice, Salt Lick, Texas private investigators Debbie Sue Overstreet and Edwina Perkins are thrilled to be invited to speak a at the National Association of P.I.s convention in New York City. Besides a free trip, they plan to investigate all the latest sleuthing gadgetry and designer shoes; not that they can afford any with their beauty parlor being their moneymaker.

The dynamic detecting Domestic Equalizer duo makes friends with natives such as some ladies like Cher who work the street for a living and visitors from Texas like mugging victim Celina. Although they swore no cases while enjoying a bite of the Big Apple, Debbie Sue and Edwina end up in the middle of an NYPD serial killer inquiry in which the murderer considers targeting two dizzy detective dames from Texas.

The latest Domestic Equalizer mystery (see MY HEART MAY BE BROKEN, BUT MY HAIR STILL LOOKS GOOD and SINCE YOU'RE LEAVING ANYWAY, TAKE OUT THE TRASH) is more a culture war between rural Texas and urban Manhattan. The bets are on the two zany Salt Lick hair stylists. As always in this series, the lead duet try to do the right thing as they perceive that to be, but most often cause more problems for those they want to save and leads to plenty of humor. Readers will appreciate the Texas-Manhattan encounter as Debbie Sue and Edwina bring their hearts and humor to Times Square.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT ONE BY THE SISTER DUO..., June 17, 2008

I do have one complaint about the writers, though. They just don't get them out fast enough. I loved, loved this book. My concern at first was that I would not get to see enough of Ed and Debbie Sue once the secondary character was introduced. They take Celina under their wing but they are all involved with the madness that happens in New York.

The reviewer from Publisher's Weekly who called Ed and Debbie Sue "silly" must not have any speck of a sense of humor. Don't pay attention to that part of the review. Dixie Cash fans will not be disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars What were they thinking?, December 26, 2011
By
Reader PJ "Avid Reader" (Washington State, United States) - See all my reviews
The first couple of books were cute and lovable. This one just wasn't. The two main characters (Debbie Sue and Ed) were just plain stupid. They were just so over the top at being inept and ridiculous that I am surprised I even finished this book. These women are supposed to be private investigators, but when one screws up by getting her nails caught in the cord of a listening device and then erases the tape of a murder and the other can't decide what they should do about what they heard, it was just too much. I will try one more book by these authors and if it is as bad as this one, it will be my last.

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book to read while sick, November 6, 2009
I don't know about you, but when I am not feeling good and having to take care of sick kiddos and hubby, let alone trying to get over the flu, the last thing you want to read is something heavy and profound. This book fits the bill. It's not a heavy thinking book. I didn't need to figure out how it was going to end because I knew how it was going to end but I didn't care ... it's a fluffy book with a lot of wise-cracks by two ornery women. (If there is a stereotype of people, this book would definitely fit the bill ... I never thought of Texan women but now, I can't get those twangy accents out of my head!)

I have no idea how this book came into my possession, but it fit the bill for a day like today in between doing the laundry and changing the sheets and comforting a sick kid. If I wasn't sick, I wouldn't have given this book the time of day.

This book is about two women from Texas who was invited to NYC to do a presentation at a conference on how to be a detective. They meet up with a prostitute named Cher and a young girl who was robbed the day she arrived in NYC, named Celina, who is also from Texas. Someone gets murdered and the two women, Debbie Sue and Edwina happened to be in the thick of things. They solve the murder but not without causing a lot of havoc to the hotel they're at and without a lot of cussing.

It's an ok novel but not the best.

2.0 out of 5 stars I Choose My Shoes - Over This Book -, September 5, 2009
By
Sherri Lee "Romance Reviewer" (Colesville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
Dixie Cash should have stopped this series after their first three enjoyable books. This book just lost its "Spark". The plot was boring in places and really stupid in others. The romance and fiery interactions between Debbie Sue and Buddy were missing so the story was unexciting ..... A Real Disappointment ....

4.0 out of 5 stars Brain Candy, November 1, 2008

Typical Edwina and Debbie Sue - and I mean that in a good way! Lots of laughs (especially Edwina at the airport) and likable supporting characters. I did miss the usual west Texas setting but it was fun seeing NYC through Edwina's eyes. This is a good series and I think the authors are doing a great job developing the two main characters. Hope the next one is in the works.
