This is a prefect pop album.
Its just great pop song after great pop song, all sounding like lost 60's classics. Whats really amazing, though, is that Locksley manages to pull off a fantastic pop album without falling into ANY of the common trappings of modern music. "Don't Make Me Wait" is not filled with hipster irony like the Strokes. Its not detatched and insincere like Fountains of Wayne. Its not incredibly derivative like Oasis. Its not dull and lifeless and generic like much of Weezer. It doesn't come off as processed or manufactured like the Click Five. While it does adhere closely to the pop and rock of the 60's, its not nostalgic or cutesy. Its a perfectly balanced, perfectly executed pop album. I keep looking for flaws but there are none. Some might consider it a little on the short side (about 35 minutes), but all the early Beatles LPs were right around the same length, some even shorter. Every song has at least one great hook, none of which are so immediate that they become annoying. The album coheres as a whole, but the songs are individually different enough from each other so they don't all sound the same. You can trace obvious influences of other bands in the music, but none of the songs sound like rip offs. And the whole thing just gets better and stronger with repeated listens. Its everything a pop album should be. If Locksley had put this out in 1965, teenage girls would be screaming their heads off at every concert, just like they did for the Beatles. Thats how good this album is. Its quite possibly the best pop album I've ever heard. Seriously.

Simply put, Locksley is a perfect example of modern Pop Rock and just how good it can be. If you're looking for one of the finest upbeat, feel-good albums of the year, look no further. This is one of the greatest gems to emerge in it's genre for a long, long time. This album is just hit after hit.

For all you cynical music fans out there who hold the belief that I used to, that of; "new music today sucks"...then BUY THIS CD! I have been reborn with this CD...it has shown me that there are good ole rock n roll bands out there, even in 2008, who know how to rock, and come up with great songs. The kind of songs you heard on the radio when the Beatles, the Hollies, the Kinks, the Who....Badfinger, the Knack, the Ramones, Cheap Trick....remember great music??? Well, it's here folks! Locksley is aforce to be reckoned with!! Buy it today!!!! "D" in Mass.

I'm a "classic rock" kind of guy, and Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and others are my main music interests. That being said, I'm always on the look out for new groups/music, and I read about Locksley while clicking around Amazon one day recently. I don't know why, but Amazon didn't have previews of the tracks like they usually do, so I did a quick Google search, and found other places to listen to/watch some of their music. I thought they sounded promising, so I bought the CD. I'm glad I did. I can't say that the album is "excellent" or deserving of five stars, and I know it's not fair to compare it to albums that I would consider to be five star, but it's certainly a 4+ star. There are probably all sorts of detractors out there, who say that Locksley sounds like derivatives or ripoffs of old Beatles or Yardbirds or Kinks tunes, but I say what the hell. It's a fun album to listen to, which is fine for me; I don't expect every album to be a creative masterpiece or make a political statement for a generation. This album entertains, so if that's what you're looking for, buy it; you won't be disappointed.

This is the one album I never get sick of and that I want to listen to over and over again. Each song is just wonderfully done! It definitely not the same song over and over yet all the songs seem to belong to each other. It's absolutely fantastic.
And the band live? Probably one of the best bands I've ever seen. They know their songs and you can tell they love to perform. You just can't help but dance to their music!! Plus, the guys themselves couldn't be more stellar!

Dynamic Retro,

I, too, was at the 9:30 club in DC. This is an impressive band with excellent musicianship, upbeat energy, great joy, and fine songs. What I found so impressive was how they avoided cliches in their performances of British retro pop. Remember the Knickerbockers song Lies? This band is a contemporary expression of that kind of sound. Yet they also had a distinctive hard edge. I'm a 58 year old boomer and I mostly listen to jazz these days. But I have followed Ray Davies career since the beginning (he was magnificent), and I was pleasantly surprised by Locksley. If you enjoy British rock circa 1966-1967 and you want to hear it performed with a contemporary edge, give their music a listen.

Goodbye Bealtlemania... Hello Locksley,

Like one of the other poster's here, I saw these guys open for Ray Davies at the 9:30 Club in DC and they were very impressive. The tunes were well crafted, upbeat and sounded much like they might have been lost Beatles tracks circa "Meet the Beatles". Now I love "Meet the Beatles" so normally I would jump down the throat of a band attempting to replicate the songwriting and the sound, but these guys nailed it. The great vocals and harmony parts were often traded between the two guitarists and the bass player; It is a rare band that has three GOOD singers. While the songs were absolutely retro, the arrangements and the performance was infused with a punk energy. My friend's eight year old was jumping up and down as were all the fifty-somethings that were there to hear Kinks songs. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Great Live Band!,

Last night in Tampa I witnessed Locksley backing up legendary Kinks frontman Ray Davies.I was told they only had a few hours to rehearsh as Ray had just arrived from a long flight from London.I was doubtful an upstart band from Brooklyn could match the legendary Kink frontman.Boy was I wrong, when they launched into Victoria or You Really Got Me I closed my eyes and it was like I was back at the Kinks Armory show in Tampa (early 70s).Earlier blew the mostly older crowd with their excellent stand alone opening set mostly drawn from "Dont Make Waves".Most in the audience didnt know they would be comming back later to help end Rays set with some rousing Kinks classics. If this tour comes to your town make sure to see them. Ray was no slouch either.

I've been a fan of Locksley for about 4 years now, but I had never owned this album because I couldn't find it anywhere! I recently purchased it on Amazon and I couldn't be happier that I did. Their older stuff is definitely just as good as their newer self-titled album and upon hearing it for the first time, I immediately had favorites like the Past and the Present and Safely From the City. If you like their album Be In Love or their self-titled album, I would strongly recommend getting Don't Make Me Wait as well!
