5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't stop laughing!
This is strictly a chick book! The author basically compares adult male behavior to a male child's and as everyone who has ever been in a relationship attests, men are basically babies!

The second part of the book deals with how to "handle" your boy. For instance, "For each NO you give, offer a YES in the form of a playful alternative. For instance, try...

1.0 out of 5 stars A Total Waste of a Dead Tree.
I don't normally bother reviewing books I think are bad, but this one is SO bad I must say a few words, knowing it will earn me negative votes. I DON'T NEED TO HAVE CHILDREN, I DATE THEM is not just not funny -- it is offensive and vulgar. One wouldn't mind the vulgarity, I suppose, if there had been one laugh in the entire book. But no. This is the author of a book on...

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't stop laughing!, August 22, 2001
This review is from: I Don't Need to Have Children, I Date Them: 23 Child Psychology Techniques to Use on Boys of All Ages (Hardcover)

For instance, try saying "No you CANNOT stay out all night with your friends drinking cheap beer and painting the town red. HOWEVER, you CAN stay up all night drinking expensive wine with me and painting my toenails pink."

Lots of fun illustrations and tongue-in-cheek sidebars fill this funny book. A great gift for a gal who is experiencing the exasperating training of her "boy".

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious book with some good insights, August 30, 2003
This review is from: I Don't Need to Have Children, I Date Them: 23 Child Psychology Techniques to Use on Boys of All Ages (Hardcover)
Some guys might be offended by this book, but if you're a woman, you could pick up a few tips in dealing with your significant other. Despite the title and pictures, and the fact that it looks like a children's book, the book does offer some valid insights into the male animal. I have a couple of other books by Karen Salmansohn and really appreciate her sense of humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brave and Insightfully Funny Approach to American Sexism, January 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: I Don't Need to Have Children, I Date Them: 23 Child Psychology Techniques to Use on Boys of All Ages (Hardcover)
OK, the negative reviews should convince you to get this book -- obviously Salmansohn's humorous insights are really perceptive because she is hitting some of the big targets in the male-dominated American culture. And some of the targets are complaining ... both men and male-identified, patriarchy-serving women. A key point of feminist analysis is that anti-women sexism is so deeply rooted in American culture that is has been internalized as a value by most men and many women while they were growing up. Absurd, exaggerated, counter-stereotypical humor is a great tool for excavating these unconscious cultural assumptions. And it is fun !! So don't miss the point of the author's humor. And don't miss her latest, How to Change Your Entire Life By Doing Absolutely Nothing. Salmansohn's humor and insight are national treasures. Every culture needs its critics if it is going to change, improve, and flourish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for Psych Majors !!, January 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: I Don't Need to Have Children, I Date Them: 23 Child Psychology Techniques to Use on Boys of All Ages (Hardcover)
Well, I was a psych major in college, and now a single working woman in a big city. I laughed (better than crying) my way through the "23 Child Psychology Techniques to Use on Boys of All Ages." I used to do babysitting during college, but I've had enough of that. Very entertaining and real, this book.

I DON'T NEED TO HAVE CHILDREN, I DATE THEM is not just not funny -- it is offensive and vulgar. One wouldn't mind the vulgarity, I suppose, if there had been one laugh in the entire book. But no. This is the author of a book on training your man as you would a dog, so why would I be surprised when she suggests training him as you would a toddler? I bought it as a funny gift but started reading it and refused to give it to my friend, out of embarrassment. Save your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Karens books are not funny !, April 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: I Don't Need to Have Children, I Date Them: 23 Child Psychology Techniques to Use on Boys of All Ages (Hardcover)
Training men like "dogs" or "boys"? I tell you, this womans anti-male rantings are getting really old.You wont find real humor, information or inspiration in Ms.Salmansohns books, only childish disdain for men which permeates every single page.If you want real self-help or humor look elsewhere.

This is yet another book chock full of anti-male prejudice from Karen Salmansohn. Please people,I cant emphasize this enough,do not buy this womans books unless you support childish sexism toward men. These books arent even good enough for novelty items. Please, have more respect for yourself, dont insult yourself by reading books like these. You wont find any useful information or inspiration in Karens books, only sexism.

I dont care what excrement this woman writes I`ll never feel bad about being a man,but I`ll definitely always be relieved that I`m not a woman! I knew alot of ladies were filled with irrational and juvenile hatred of men,but I didnt realize to what extent! I mean what a waste of emotional energy.I guess I shouldnt hate the writers of or readers of books like this but pity them instead.I can tell you this much,"girls" are just as exasperating to we men! May god condemn Karen Salmansohns soul to the eternal flames of hell.
