Right up front, I'll admit to a bit of bias being a long time fan (I still have a hand-written letter from her pre-email). On the other hand, I don't listen to much Christian music or openly celebrate my religion. That being said, this really is a great project that is a joy to listen to. Ashley puts her spin on a collection of open-sky field gospel tunes and they rock. I'll let other reviewers with more knowledge of gospel music make the comparisons; all I can say is I love good music and Ashley and Kenny continue to deliver, big time. I suspect those needing a lift will find it in this CD. Ashley's fans and A-Listers will no doubt eat this up and anyone discovering her for the first time will most likely be searching out her previous works. I always enjoy new music...even if it's old music...and this CD opens both my eyes and heart. Thank you, Ashley. Highly recommended.

I am slightly partial to this artist's music, having been a fan from day one. That being said, this collection of songs is a breath of fresh air in today's formula-based Christian music arena. I can't even listen to Christian radio anymore because I know I'm going to be spoon fed music that's watered-down and void of any true creativity. You won't hear a voice like this on the radio...it's too real and convicting. The industry is too busy using technology to enhance the mediocrity of those who would be stars. It is clear to me when Ashley sings, she is singing from the depths of her own human frailty and need for a Savior daily. I admire her and her work and think this release represents exactly what is lacking in the music industry today...real musical authenticity. As with the rest of her work, this release will surely achieve critical acclaim amongst those who have an appreciation for truth in music that hasn't been tampered with by those would only see it as a means for profit. Ashley is a gem.

If you enjoyed Ashley Cleveland's Grammy winning project "Before the Daylights Shot" you will also enjoy this album. Ashley's vocals rise to the occassion track after track. The guitar on this ablum is also eceptional. Do yourself a favor and buy this album.

My first Ashley Cleveland CD and I recommend it for those who like a bit more rock/blues than much offered in much of today's contemporary music.

Ahsley's performance on this CD is incredible. Her interpretation of these old unfamiliar songs from our American history is priceless.

Her best ever! Captures the essence of her live shows and the depth of her soul.

I have listened to this record constantly since I got. There is not a song on that I don't like. Ashley's voice is richly soulful and moving. The guitar work on this record is amazing.

Its rare that a Christian record speaks to your loins - but this will do it!

I had written a previous review which I deleted. I was TOTALLY wrong and apologize. I am a big fan of Ashley's and this is an excellent album. You can't listen to this album without tapping your foot or getting yor groove on.

In my previous review I stated that a better version of God Don't Never Change can be found on Russ Taff's album Under Their Influence. I stand by this statement, but still Ashley does a pretty good version herself.

All in all, this is the way gospel music is meant to be performed.

This is Ashley Cleveland's best record yet. Her voice is so emotive and the guitar tone is superb. A lot of the songs on this disc are old Gospel standbys that many of us have heard mainly done acoustically and by men, and they sound great here. Highly recommended.

Ashley Cleveland may surprise us with her new music but she never disappoints us. She has done it again. Very fresh but still very Ashley.
