cheap excuse and cheaply produced, May 3, 1999

This review is from: Don't Panic! You Can Prepare for the Y2K Crisis. (Paperback)
After reading this book I've decided to break down the authors' summary listed above. "I hope everyone can benefit from the information in this important guidebook". Translation: I'm the author and I want you to all by my book so I can get filthy rich. "I wrote it with "easy preparation" in mind, meaning I've provided lots of "easy-to-use" lists so that the reader can just "check off things as they go!" Translation: I've padded my booklet with filler materials to fill enough pages to justify it's salability." "As important as knowing what to do about water, food, security, and electrical power, is the issue of how to deal with fear and other negative emotions that accompanyY2K." Translation: I'm a fear monger trying to prey on people's insecurities." "To help with that, I've included specific things to do to decrease Y2K anxiety and stress." Translation: "I've just included an altered list from the Anxiety Disorders Association. "I've kept the guidebook brief so that anyone who wants a "I just want to know what to do!" reference can benefit, without pouring through tons of technical information." Translation: "I actually know very little about the subject matter, at least compared to the many bona fide experts out there." So, if you want to know the basics of Y2K - the best of how to prepare - and the greatest ways to "stay sane" before and during Y2K, check out this book. Thanks." Translation: "the biggest thing to fear is not fear itself, rather it's opportunistic, greedy, two-faced schyster's like the author."

Kinko's special, April 29, 1999

This review is from: Don't Panic! You Can Prepare for the Y2K Crisis. (Paperback)
This booklet reminds of when I had class projects for college. I'd take them to Kinko's down the street from the University. For a book report this type of job is fine. However, to pay so much for this is crazy. Anyone who buys this junk should also make a counselor appointment with the author to discuss the wonders of fraud.

ludicrous!, April 26, 1999

This review is from: Don't Panic! You Can Prepare for the Y2K Crisis. (Paperback)
This must be a bad joke. Just like a lot of psychologists. I didn't know that Kinko's is now a publishing firm? This is truly shoddy. For shame!

Unfortunate Purchase, April 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Don't Panic! You Can Prepare for the Y2K Crisis. (Paperback)
Over-priced, and probably photocopied at Kinko's. I admit it, I got suckered into paying $14.95 (plus shipping and handling) for this 41-page report. I rate this as 1 Star, because there is SOME value... at least you can give it to a less acute neighbor after you're done. You don't need it if you merely download and print a few free lists off the Internet, or buy some of the better books that Amazon.com offers on the subject. I thought it would contain good information on what to buy, what things to do, etc. As it turned out all of it was a rehash of things I had already printed out from Y2K web sites for literally pennies. In fact, the ACTUAL practical advice on things to buy and preparations to make only begin on the latter half of page 22! (Yes, half of the 41 pages is spent on trying to convince you of the problem and helping you mentally cope with the shock.) Then the practical advice ends on page 35, and after that, it's all advice about trying to alert your neighbors and finding the positive aspects of Y2K (such as becoming more spiritual - possibly because there might be no TV or cable to catch your attention). If you want to get the same information (and more!) that is in this pamphlet, I recommend going to good Y2K web sites. And then I recommend buying the much better books that are cheaper AND more comprehensive! There are dozens listed here on the Amazon web site that are not cheap copyshop reproductions (on white 8.5"x11" paper with black plastic ring binders). If I had had the opportunity to browse this pamphlet, I would probably have left it alone.

Holistic Rambler!, April 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Don't Panic! You Can Prepare for the Y2K Crisis. (Paperback)
After we reading this kinkos bound "book", we have concluded that Dr. Dobbs must have received her "doctorate" from Amazon. Her information on "panic" was merely an altered list from the Anxiety Disorders Association. The 12 important steps were NOT conclusive. This is the last time we get Y2K survival informtion from a Gudiance Counselor.

It helped me to put Y2K into perspective., April 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Don't Panic! You Can Prepare for the Y2K Crisis. (Paperback)
This book helped me to put Y2K into perspective. Before I read the book I felt the problem was to big and I did not know where to start. Dr. Dodds was able to help me deal with the panic I felt when I thought about the year 2000. Now I look at Y2K as an opportunity to prepare not only for problems of the year 2000 but how to be prepared for any such problem.
