I have read TONS of photography books in my quest to become a great photographer of children and babies. This is the best of them all. The section on all the things you can do to get natural expressions out of kids is worth the price of the book alone. I'm going to keep the list of tricks and techniques in my studio to refer to during each photo shoot I have. I wish I would have known these things a lot time ago! It is clear that the author has had tons of experience with photographing children and really knows what she's talking about. The writing is very conversational and easy to understand. I would recommend this book to any photographer or aspiring photographer who wants to know how to succeed with children and babies.

Most professionals keep their tricks up their sleeves, so it's refreshing to see an artist reveal real tips and techniques to earnestly help other aspiring photographers. The author's suggestions range from subtle to practical to specialized. There's something for everyone in here. This book is accessible...not overly technical, loaded with sound advice garnered from years of hands-on experience, well-written, and the perfect length. The links are helpful, the quality of the read is high-end, and the photographs are stunning (even the "what-not-to-do" shots). I highly recommend this book to both seasoned child photographers and to those just starting out.

This book is a wonderful resource for someone new to photographing children, like myself. It appears quite obvious that the author is very experienced with photographing children. This is an easy to understand and thorough read which includes a wealth of information on how to best photograph kids at different ages and stages. The author has amazing tricks up her sleeve in order to capture natural expressions from kiddos and I appreciate her willingness to share this information with the rest of us. I enjoyed reading this book cover to cover, learning something new and interesting on each page.

The perfect, comprehensive go-to guide for baby and child photographers. Whether you're just getting started, or looking for new tricks to add to your photographic repertoire, this book is a must-have. Mary Lynne is honest in her comparison of home studio vs. retail location, and her own struggles when she began her photography business. And the detailed information about equipment, from lenses to lighting, makes this a great resource for those trying to break into studio-style baby and child photography.

As a professional in business for over 5 years, even I learned some new tricks in this book. Mary Lynne holds nothing back as she shares tons of tested tips for getting the best portraits out of kids. I have found many of her suggestions good ones and she even debunks some tricks that have backfired on myself (and others) and tells you why. Great, easy read in a format that would be easy to reference quickly. If you are running out of new things to try or new to working with kids, this is your book!!

Like a magician who pulls back the curtain to show how a trick is done, this book takes a friendly warm approach to informing its readers about some basic and advanced topics that could take years of trial and error to learn. I particularly liked the confortable writing style and the practical tips and tricks are invaluable. I am sure that I will be referring to this book often as I try to improve my photography skills and techniques.

It didn't really help. It was too basic. She never really went into much detail. Very very entry level. I do not recommend.
