Book Description

January 27, 2007
Western civilization is the unique product of an astonishing synthesis of faith and reason. The roots of Western order can be traced back to three historical cities: Jerusalem, Athens, and Rome. Each of these cites in its time of maximum flourishing was the scene of tremendous spiritual and intellectual outbursts that transformed the world of its day, and which continue to shape the Western mind in modern times. Indeed, their lasting influence is unparalleled in human history, giving rise to the magnificent achievements of systematic science, of advanced modern technology; of the flourishing of the arts and literature, of philosophy, cosmology, and theology, of political theory; and of widespread economic prosperity. This book presents a wide-ranging survey of contemporary developments in the fields of science, philosophy, and culture, offering a critique from the classical/Christian perspective.

This review is from: Don't Let Science Get You Down, Timothy: A Light-hearted (but Deadly Serious) Dialogue on Science, Faith, and Culture (Paperback)
Years ago when I was seeking a deeper understanding of Christianity several people recommended C.S. Lewis. I bought Mere Christianity but for some reason, at that time, his writing style and my reading style did not mesh and I was unable to stay with it for long. Perhaps I should try again.

In the meantime I bought this book, Timothy, and found it perfectly harmonious with my reading and thinking comfort. These ladies pack an awful lot of meaningful information in one book. They illustrate that science and Christianity are complimentary rather than contradictory. I found it very enlightening as well as educational about both science and religion. Many scientific concepts that are difficult for many of us to understand are made easy in this book. There are also lessons and insights which are not normally evident to the casual reader of the Bible and religious literature.

If you want to understand more about each, I recommend this book to young and old alike.
