Amazon.com Review

Jess is thrilled when two cute, new boys move to her small town -- but then the neighborhood cats start disappearing and she spies a silent watcher lurking outside her yard. With the help of a computer-loving friend, Jess starts to investigate the newcomers, little dreaming that the Federal Witness Protection Program has unleashed a sociopath on her town. Fans of light thrillers will enjoy this creepy story by four-time Edgar winner Nixon. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From School Library Journal

Grade 8-10-An exciting thriller that will keep teens on the edge of their seats. Preliminary information explains that, after testifying in an organized-crime trial, a 17-year-old sociopath is being relocated under the Federal Witness Protection Program. The story then switches to the tiny community of Oakberry, TX, where not one but two new boys turn up at the high school. Jessica Donnally, the narrator, is attracted to handsome Mark, but puzzled by his sudden behavioral changes and desire to be in the limelight. On the other hand, she suspects Scott of spying on her and soon discovers that he's lying about crucial information. Readers will be kept in suspense thanks to Nixon's skillful plotting. Characterization is excellent, and Jess is a particularly likable and realistic heroine. Don't Scream is a well written, shivery alternative to Stine, Pike, and company.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jessica Donnally's Mystery, May 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Don't Scream (Paperback)
A Review by Kristin

Jessica Donnally lives in a small in Texas, and life is pretty normal for her, until two different families move into town. Things in this small town seem to go missing, and things around town are kind of weird. The light bulb in the street lights seem to always be shattered and all the cats in the neighborhood seem to be missing. Jessica decides that one of the boys from the new families in town is doing this stuff and she is determine to find out which one of them it is. But will she make it in time to stop him?

I thought that this was a good book. It kept you thinking, wondering, and in suspense the whole time. The story led up to a great ending, which was well worth the wait. In the whole book Jessica get more and more interested in looking for who is doing this two her town and it makes you feel like you are in it doing detective work too. The book is well written and is easily understood. I think that I would read more of her books. She is a great author. The Story goes back from one person to anther, and is putt together very nicely.

I would recommend this book to people who like suspenseful mysteries. I really liked this book, and it was easy to read.

3.0 out of 5 stars I hope my review is helpful to you!, September 19, 2006
A Kid's Review

Don't Scream

If you like a book with some suspense then you would love this book. It is really great book. Although I found it to be a little sad in some parts I agreed that there needs to be some drama to make a book worth reading. The book was about a girl named Jessica and how she reacts when two new kids come to town. She grows suspicious of Scott and Mark. Like were they come from, what they have done to get here, and other personal stuff about them. When she finds out something bad about them; she fears that her life and her friends and family's life might be in danger, too.

My favorite guy character was Eric because he was a real sweetheart and he was very heroic. My favorite girl character was Lori because she would tell it like it is and she was also very caring.

One of the reasons I kind of disliked the book is that it foreshadowed a little too much. I sometimes felt that I knew what was coming up next but the ending surprised me so much.

I could relate to the book because they were in school and they had some of the same things that happen at my school. I think this is a good book for teenagers, but I don't recommend it for adults though.
