This review is from: Don't Stand So Close To Me (MP3 Download)
The Police's "Don't stand so close to me" is their best song. It's catchy, infectious, and you can have an earworm for days. In contrast to its "updated" pretentious 1986 version, the original is playfully naughty. Sting was once an English teacher... but he claims this song isn't based on fact. Oh well. In "Don't stand so close to me",a student is smitten with her teacher; her friends are mean; the teacher is in trouble with his co-workers. The Police don't portray them in the usual glamorized, romanticized light. There are sad consequences. Still, it's a fun, anthemic song.
