Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

A developmental psychologist specializing in female adolescence here presents new approaches to the contemporary parenting of daughters. The relationship between mother and child is formed early in their life together; as Caron has concluded from the workshops that provide the basis of this book, the quality of that bonding affects a girl's full psychological and emotional development in ways quite different from a boy's. The voices of teenage girls and their mothers are heard in candid evaluations of their roles, in descriptions of the tensions that seem normal components of this developmental stage and in the hopeful note of the reconciliation process begun by many mothers and daughters at the end of adolescence. The guide provides straight-talking, readable and practical advice for mothers overseeing a difficult growth period. First serial to Good Housekeeping.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Highly Suggest This Book For Dads of Adolescent Girls Too, December 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Don't Stop Loving Me: Reassuring Guide For Mothers of Adolescent Daughters (Paperback)
I bought this book several years ago when my daughter was 12 and I've read and reread it many times since. It's one of the few books on teenage girls I have read that is written to teach both parent/adult and child about the stress and strain of adolescence. The information in the book is applicable to "fathers" as well. Now that my daughter is seventeen, I'm convinced that she would behave in exactly the same manner if she had been raised by her father alone. With this in mind, I encourage Dads to read this book, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book helped me tremendously to understand my 12 yr girl, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Don't Stop Loving Me: Reassuring Guide For Mothers of Adolescent Daughters (Paperback)
I didn't want this book to end. It was so insight ful, helped me to think before I speak to my 12 yr old girl. I'm trying to apply the concept of no negative feed back, even in the face of the "7th grade uglies". I wish she had written more on this subject. I'm about to read "Strong Mothers, Strong Sons" for my 18 and 12 year old sons.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful book for moms of teens, June 4, 2001
This review is from: Don't Stop Loving Me: Reassuring Guide For Mothers of Adolescent Daughters (Paperback)
A good jumping off point for moms searching for a way to relate to their daughters. No earth shattering information but it is concrete with useful suggestions. Would recommend it to someone looking for much needed advice. The most helpful aspect of the book is it's description of adolescence as a developmental stage. It normalizes what many go through as their daughters begin to separate from the family in a sometimes overwhelming way.
