What a delightful book packed with ideas that make you THINK. Lots of separate "articles" so you can digest one at a time. Such as: 'Don't Wait for Bad News to Appreciate Your Life' and 'Let Go of Your Expectations' and 'Forgive Your Outbursts". Another book I love: Perfect Parenting - The Dictionary of 1000 Parent Tips by Elizabeth Pantley. (The nuts...

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick Read, Some Good Advice, No Revelations
You'll get more out of it if you are married and have a spouse, instead of only roommates. Gives basic advice about living with other people, repeating some of the original 'Don't Sweat The Small Stuff -- It's All Small Stuff' advice. Doesn't have much about kids. I'd consider this a decent X-mas gift for newlywed couples who haven't lived with each other that long...

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet, February 3, 2000
This review is from: Don't Sweat the Small Stuff with Your Family: Simple Ways to Keep Daily Responsibilities and Household Chaos From Taking Over Your Life (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series) (Paperback)
It's not rocket science - getting along with your family - but isn't it astounding how many people can't get along at home on a regular basis? Even if you're fortunate to have nearly perfect family relations, you'll find yourself in at least one situation in this little book.

Carlson makes his points simply and in a straightforward manner which almost hits you in the head with: "OF COURSE! THIS MAKES SENSE! WHY HAVEN'T I DONE THIS BEFORE? "

You'll enjoy the suggestions and practicing the ways to get along better with everyone who means anything to you in life (and even those you don't care so much about).

Judge this book by its cover ~ it's filled with often overlooked words of wisdom!

I was so inspired and encouraged in this book. It was life changing for me. Although I'm gradually putting into practice its concepts and suggestions, it help lift my spirits on so many occasions. It let me know that others go through like experiences as myself. I highly recommend this book to any working parent. Our kids are our most prized commodity, so we should do all we can to make life at home secure, happy and peaceful for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to read every day, July 21, 1998
This review is from: Don't Sweat the Small Stuff with Your Family: Simple Ways to Keep Daily Responsibilities and Household Chaos From Taking Over Your Life (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series) (Paperback)
Great book that is ! I read it whenever I found the time and with its small chapters full of great insights it puts all of your life in perspective again. From living in the present to reevaluating your goals in life this little wonderful book is full of beautiful, simple true insights in what is really important in life. I have it besides my bed and read at least one chapter every evening. And I will for sure start at the beginning again once I have finished it (for the second time)

I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels that todays society and its values are somewhat out of proportions. You willl realize that it all is just you...

This book brings us back to what is really important in life....relationships...all that we have...all that we can obtain has no greater meaning. It makes one stop and consider what they are doing with their life and what it is that can cause life to have some sense of happiness , peace and fullfillment. In our office, I take one "chapter" a day and share it with the staff. We talk about how that applies to us in our jobs as well as personally...we all are learning to find more joy as we quit "Sweating the Small Stuff!"

This book was helpful, but not nearly as helpful as Elaine St. James' "Simplify Your Life." I'd recommend starting there, and tackling the peculiarities of life with children -after- you've tried a few of Elaine's suggestions. Elaine has a way of approaching the big picture, finding the chinks, and carving off large chunks of unneeded stress.

This book has more psychological, feel-your-way advice, while "Simplify Your Life" gives concrete, single steps that almost anyone can implement, age not a factor.

This review is from: Don't Sweat the Small Stuff with Your Family: Simple Ways to Keep Daily Responsibilities and Household Chaos From Taking Over Your Life (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series) (Paperback)
This book has very short chapters. What this does is allows you to quickly get a thought-provoking and helpful "shot in the arm" almost anywhere. I find it a great book to keep in the car for reading during commutes when I am a passenger or even if stuck in traffic. Sure, some of the stuff is common sense but the way Carlson puts it - it really makes you think and makes it real. Definitely one to read and pass on to someone else.

This review is from: Don't Sweat the Small Stuff with Your Family: Simple Ways to Keep Daily Responsibilities and Household Chaos From Taking Over Your Life (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series) (Paperback)
So far, I can honestly say this book has changed my family life for the better! Having started reading it two weeks ago, I am more relaxed around my kids and spouse, and they are much happier. Such simple, easy to apply advice. Parenting books can be overwhelming with advise and the expectations to be perfect - this is the solution to the unrealistic demands we put on ourselves and our families to be perfect. Thanks to this author!
