About the Author

I was born and raised in Georgia but I have been lucky enough to reside in Charleston, South Carolina for the last 18 years. Such a historical and quirky city has been an endless source of inspiration for my writing and my historical training. My day job is in aerospace, but I've been writing off and on for a decade. I have recently decided to become serious about the venture. The transcription of the diaries of a Civil War soldier turned into my first novel, Diary of a Ghost. I have completed a memoir that is a story about a different kind of a spirit that is all too real. Two other fiction novels are completed and should be published by the end the year.

I think the writer just needs a bit more practice to smooth out their writing style.

Ms. Walker tells a moving account of her experience with prescription drugs, notably antidepressants and antianxiety medications. This issue is at the forefront of medical science at the present time. There is much controversy on this topic, and Ms. Walker's experience is not unique in today's world of over prescribing physicians. What is unique is the way the author lays bare her soul about her struggle to overcome her dependence on these types of drugs. She often injects humor into her revealing story. This is not intended to be light hearted, but is indicative of the author's ability to demonstrate the strength she had to make it through such a difficult time in her life. What makes it inspiring is how she triumphs and comes through with strength and courage. I highly recommend it!

The truth hurts this author lays her soul open with salt to be thrown on her truth. I appreciate her honesty. Imagine your worst nightmares discovering you've crossed the line of addiction where the only difference between you and the bum on the street is one paycheck.

I found this book a bit hard to read. Olivia Walker had my mind jumping around trying to keep up with the way she jumped from situation to situation. She never made it truly clear what she was more addicted to and what situations would cause her to drink and/or to pop pills. She never got into how she was getting her supply of pills or if she did, I missed it. It was an ok read but I would go days without wanting to read it.

This could of been a decent book. It was a good story with excellent material to work with but the author totally ruined it for me. She blames everyone in the world for problems and issues of her own making and it got old really fast. Save your money for something worthwhile.

Reading through the book, you are watching a woman who is obviously quite intelligent (although she seems to hide it by giving very vague references to the jobs she holds and the books she writes) be involved in a serious of very unhealthy relationships just because she is scared to be alone. I don't want to ruin the book, but it shows that people from all walks of life are just as likely to become addicted to people living on the streets. Although others may disagree, I think one of the main lessons from the book is that you don't have to be begging and homeless to be an addict and it can be just as difficult to admit you have a problem. You can manipulate others the same way whether you live in a higher class neighborhood or on the streets. It appears you have the same mentality. Its a very interesting book and she really makes you understand how she is feeling. There are even parts where I felt that I could understand why she was handling things in the manner that she was.

I'm surprised that I am giving the first review for this book. I really enjoyed reading about Olivia's life. I can definitely relate to many of her experiences. The psychologists and psychiatrists are completely locked in to a mindset of "take SSRI antidepressants -- they fix depression and anxiety". Well, for me, and for many others, they don't help. At all. In fact, they make the situation worse. Try telling that to one of these doctors and see how well received your comments are. Thank you Olivia for sharing your life!

This book was good to start with but towards the middle I really had to force myself to keep reading a multiple points. The story itself is great. I think the writer just needs a bit more practice to smooth out their writing style.
