5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and thought provoking - great read, August 19, 2002
This review is from: Don't Trip Over The Pebbles in your Path (Paperback)
Insightful, introspective, and encouraging, "Don't Trip Over the Pebbles In Your Path" provides 52 short chapters. Each chapter is easy to read in a single short sitting and so makes it appropriate for even the most harried and hurried of readers.

Through her experiences as a therapist and mother, Roni Bissett brings a wonderful and insightful approach to life. The book is filled with encouraging words and insights. I particularly liked the well chosen poems, quotes and other motivational and introspective comments dispersed throughout the book. Basically, each chapter deals with one aspect of life, the stress of marriage, dealing with children, life-stages we all go through, divorce, remarriage, forgiveness, the importance of belief, self-image, and retirement as well as many other areas.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I knew from the beginning that it would be a source of introspection and guidance when I read the poem by Helen Mallicoat in the first chapter. This is not to say that every chapter spoke to me, but many did as the author's writing style and insight reached down to the basics of life and living it fully and without any regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars A valued therapuetic companion., July 21, 1999

This review is from: Don't Trip Over The Pebbles in your Path (Paperback)
Roni Bissett's "Don't Trip Over the Pebbles in Your Path" is a memorable and inspirational collection of 52 essays which first appeared in her local Washington state newspaper advice column. Bissett structures the entries around the course of a year, starting with the hope of a New Year and ending with the reflectiveness of the Christmas season. She effectively uses this approach to building an understanding of one's place within the stages of life. Bissett's orbservations concern themselves with the issues of self-image because they present problems for so many people. She maintains that the lack of self-worth an individual might feel can act as an obstacle in relationships with spouse, employer, colleagues, friends, family and neighbors. From the stresses of marriage, parenting and divorce to problems arising from holidays and retirement, these essays are a kind of collective therapy where Bissett shares her wit, wisdom and insight into the human condition. "Don't Trip Over the Pebbles in Your Path" is a valued compendium of observation and advice that will help the reader to deal with and value all the experiences encountered in life's unpredictable journey.

This review is from: Don't Trip Over The Pebbles in your Path (Paperback)
This is the best self-book I have ever read!! (and I have read many!!) With wit and humor, Roni Bissett shares her many years as a family therapist and as a mother of six!! As a new mother, I have found several of the chapters on parenting extreemly helpful and comforting- I also really love that you can open to any chapter and find help in almost any facet of live. Such as marriage, divorce, self-image, aging and handling the holiday blues!! This book is filled with wonderful insights!
