4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this CD, but........
Black Ivory was a group I remember very well while in high school. I even saw them live at Bowie State College in the fall of 1972, the CD is a combination of the first two albums they recorded which is very nice, but let be critical for a moment. The cut of You and I is not the original but a cut that was made by the group in the early eighties with only one...

Black Ivory was a group I remember very well while in high school. I even saw them live at Bowie State College in the fall of 1972, the CD is a combination of the first two albums they recorded which is very nice, but let be critical for a moment. The cut of You and I is not the original but a cut that was made by the group in the early eighties with only one original member. If it is possible they should reproduce the first two albums separately (my favorite cut is find the one who loves you , as another reviewer stated). I think the old school crowd and the listeners of 70`s music would enjoy it better.

5.0 out of 5 stars They sound...Just Like The Delfonics, February 2, 2004

Having worked personally with the guys in the 70's on the east coast in a showcase as an opening act for them I can tell you they "Black Ivory can really Jam". Their choreography is as tight as their sound. They gave my group and band stiff competition. "Don't Turn Around, You and I" are the main hits. They even did a powerful live rendition of The Delfonics hit " For The Love That I give To You". If you decide to buy this music....you'll also open the doors to your mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars WHERE????????, December 27, 2002
This review is from: Don't Turn Around: Golden Classics Edition (Audio CD)
What ever happened to these guys. And then it seems to be the only thing in print by them. They had great harmony and wonderful music arrangements. This CD is great, and it would have gotten 5 stars from me, if we were not cheated out on the "You and I" song. This was one of their stand-out songs with the original version stretching out a little over 7 minutes long, with an opus-like ending full of strings and stacks of harmony, almost chaotic, but wonderful. No this karaoke throw-back version that is heard here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not All Original But Good, October 8, 2002
This review is from: Don't Turn Around: Golden Classics Edition (Audio CD)
This album will have you wanting to go back to that time in your life when everything was simple.Basement parties with the black light. With the acception of "You and I" which is not the original, but still enjoyable to listen to, this is a good album to take you back down memory lane and have you wanting more.A blend of harmonies and melodies that you won't hear in todays music.Enjoy the music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real treasure!, November 4, 1998
By A Customer

If you love Philly's mellow slow sounds, then you just ought to take the NJ Turnpike northbound to check out the harmonies of these fellas from New York City. Russell Patterson, Leroy Burgess III, and Stuart Bascombe charm you with their sincerely romantic best on their ballads - - "Don't Turn Around", "You & I", "I'll Find a Way", "She Said that She's Leaving", "It's Time to Say Goodbye", "Wishful Thinking", and "Time is Love". I would have given this CD a 5 Star rating, but "Find the One Who Loves You" (which is one my favorites) was somehow omitted from this collection. However, just be forewarned - - have some tissues available for the poets and other sensitive souls who may be listening in the house. . .these brothers can "sang"!

Although the Black Ivory may not be as well known as comparable groups such as Blue Magic, the Stylistics, and the Delfonics, their talent sings for itself. All you have to do is listen.

First off;...praise be to God for these brothers. I was twelve years old when I first heard the sound of Black Ivory. I was very much in love with a girl named Cynthia. Our song was "TIME IS LOVE". I never forgot that song or this group. It was a very simple and romantic time for me.I share this info to all young lovers who don't quite know how to love,..yet. Try this CD.You'll feel the way all the other reviewers feel about Black Ivory. They still have it goin on!

5.0 out of 5 stars You've done it again Amazon.com!!, June 19, 1999

Eveytime I think I have you stumped you come up with a album from back in the day. I still have my original Black Ivory album in storage. This was the album that me and alot of my friends (male & female) learned how to slow dance to in the back hallways of the Stella Wright project building in Newark, NJ. My wife; who never had an opportunity to hear Black Ivory when she was growing up sums up my feeling best when she says, "You have that far away look in your eyes again!" after listening to a recording of "Don't Turn Around" or "You and I!" Black Ivory - Gone but not Forgotten!!
