5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous series, wonderful story!
This is the second story, a follow up to I'm The Vampire, That's Why, which I also loved. This is a stand alone so you don't have to have read the first one (although I DO recommend it! ;).

This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second story, a follow up to I'm The Vampire, That's Why, which I also loved. This is a stand alone so you don't have to have read the first one (although I DO recommend it! ;).

Eva LeRoy is the town librarian and was turned into a vampire. She still runs the library and cares for her teenage daughter (who's funny too and falls for a vampire hunter). She's a single mom who hasn't had a man in her life in a long time.

Lorcan is a handsome vamp who's been healed from 'the taint' which cause him to kill Eva and 11 other members of the community and he's guilt ridden although still VERY sexy. <g>

Eva has the rare ability to communicate with animals and because of this there are some bad vamps after her. Lorcan has sworn to protect her while everyone (Patrick and Jessica from the last book included) tries to figure out what's going on.

I loved this story! It's hilarious, hip and touching too. Wonderful characters, wonderful story and highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!, July 5, 2007
This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I could not put this book down and finished it the day I got it. In this sequel to I'm the Vampire, That's Why, we get to know some of the other citizens of Broken Heart and to know them is to love them. This time, the story focuses on Eva, the town librarian. I absolutely loved the interaction between Eva and her teenage daughter who has adjusted amazingly well to having a mother who is a vampire. This story grabs hold of you and does not let go until you have turned the very last page. It is a fantastic ride and I cannot wait for the next Broken Heart adventure. Michele Bardsley rocks!!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars, July 4, 2007
This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Just a couple of months ago, Eva Leroy was a normal mom/librarian. She's still a mother and a librarian, but outside of Broken Heart, she would not be considered normal. Thanks to a temporarily insane vampire, she and several other single parents are now vampires themselves and their town has been taken over as a haven for paranormal beings. Like all the others, Eva is adjusting, but she's still not happy when she's told she'll have to move because her house is in a blindspot. That becomes the least of her worries when hunters come looking for Nefertitti, an ancient, evil vampire who is controlling a pack of monsters. Even that little matter pales in comparison to the situation when Eva is infected with the Taint, the one disease a vampire can get, and faces dying slowly and painfully. She does not want to leave her daughter behind or to leave this world now that she's found love with Lorcan, the vampire who turned her. Somehow, the two incidents are related, though, and solving one might solve the other. She can hope, anyway.

**** Fun and suspense mix well in this latest entry in the rising paranormal mom-lit-romance blend genre. Broken Heart is an interesting place to visit; the way Ms. Beardsley has imagined building a society for vampires and lycanthropes is intriguingly inventive. I hope that there are many more stories there to tell. ****

Oh, I waited forever in great anticipation for this book! Bardsley's first novel of the Broken Heart, Ok series was fantastic! It was so fresh & unexpected even for someone who reads a lot of this genre. And as much as I looked forward to this second installment I felt let down. The storyline was good, the characters were good to decent. But there were two areas I was disappointed in that took the sizzle from the story.

Lorcan never seems to grow as a character. I still feel I don't really know anything more about him than I did in the first book. Patrick was so enigmatic and hot that his brother comes of as a palid, cold let down. Maybe this is why issue two came into play: no spark between Lorcan, our hero, and Eva the heroine. This is a cardinal sin for a romance book. I just didn't really feel anything between them.

It starts off with Lorcan hurting himself somehow and Eva toting him into her bed just before sunrise. That's asking a lot considering Lorcan killed her just a few months ago. Instead of anything steamy he leaves her a rose and goes on his way. Lorcan helps her out of a situation involving some Lycans the next evening but again no sparks. Infact for most of the book the two aren't together and Eva is sick, which can be an emotional jerker but is hardly conducive to the toe curling sultriness of Patrick & Jess's romance. Maybe we were spoiled too much with the first book, this one just couldn't compete.

Absolutely loved the cover art though, right down to the little bats painted on her fingernails!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not As Good As The First, December 24, 2008
This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
The first in this series was good, this one just fell flat.

Broken Heart, Oklahoma is still getting back on it's feet after the Consortium came to town and turned eleven single mothers into vampires. This story is told by town librarian Eva. Now all she has to do is fight off the Wraiths and find out how to get Lorcan, the twin brother of Patrick, from the first book, to see her in a whole new way.

The only thing that kept me reading was very interesting magical lore that is interwoven periodically through this story

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so impressed...., September 19, 2007
This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read the first one in this series and found it quite funny and a good story line so I was happy to get the second. However, this one fell short in a number of ways. As a previous review mentioned, there is little interaction between the main characters. Enough so I was wondering were and how their romance was supposed to be building or growing. I liked Eva, but her character had a few too many contridictions, and Lorcan didn't develop much at all. There were several places where I felt the "scene" jumped too far. I kept checking back to see if I had missed a couple pages, but I hadn't. Though I understand that Eva might have been confused about what was going on, I don't think the reader should be. Also, the characters from the previous book, Jess and Patrick, didn't really seem the same, especially Jess.

I really like the idea of this series. The first book was reasonably well done, but this one fell flat for me. I hope the next book is better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Actually thought this was better than the first one!, August 16, 2009

This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
The second in the Broken Heart Oklahoma series, "Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire" tells the tale of Broken heart librarian Eva. Eva was killed and turned into a vampire a few months back, when Lorcan, a vampire suffering from a disease called 'the taint' went on a spree and murdered several housewives and a househusband. These deceased were immediately turned into vampires by a vampire polictical group with plans to take over the town and turn it into a safe haven for all things unworldly. Eva and her 12 year old daughter are adjusting to their new lives, when Eva finds herself with new vamp side effect powers. She has an effinity for animals and they are drawn to her. She is also able to mind read animals that were once human. This just gets her involved in a mess and a power play when the band of Wraiths and even an Ancient want to get to her. Locan tries to protect her but he has his own secrets. This book was a quick, lighthearted read. At times the story is humourous but I think the author thinks she is funnier than she really is. That is unfortunate because from her notes and other things I have read I can tell she is just a fabulous person. I am all for quick, quirky reads but the biggest fault of this series it that the author doesn't do enough description and she leaves things hanging frequently and the reader is expected to fill in the gaps. The basic plot of the series is a winner. The characters, although they too could use some more definition, are good and likeable. I love the kid/parent interactions but there need to be more of them if this series is working the mommy angle. Still, I really enjoyed this one more than the first and I have the next one in my room, ready to be read. I can hope this series will continue to improve. I hope it does because I do see a lot of potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Series Just Got Better!, July 28, 2007
By
This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
OK, I'll admit...the first book was ok. Nothing spectacular, but a decent read. The second book in the series, "Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire" vastly improved the series. The character depth increased, causing me, as a reader, to empathize with Eva's situation. There are quite a few "laugh out loud" moments in the book, especially Eva's interactions with her daughter, Tamara, a typical angst-ridden teen chock full o' eyerolls and whatevers (this character reminded me a lot of my own 13 yr old daughter!). All in all, a fast and funny read!

2.0 out of 5 stars It just fell flat..., May 13, 2008
This review is from: Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't what it was about this book but it was just a big fat BLEH. The first book of this series was so great and I was looking forward to Lorcan's book. As a character, he never developed. He always seemed depressed and morose--even the heroine remarked on it several times. Yes, we get that you did somethings that weren't good..but do you have to be such a downer? Get on with your life and make the best of it. Especially since the people he killed and turned wasn't persecuting him. I felt like the romance wasn't there either. It was like "oh yeah we're meant to be forever but we'll get back to that later.." There was really no clear sense of belonging. I read Patrick and Jessica's story again last week and it was HOT. Lorcan's story did not do him justice. Eva was okay but she even bore me. I mean that whole talk about good and evil with that enemy (who I will not name) was just plain blah. I was actually hoping that one of them would just beat each other down...but then again Eva doesn't even know how to defend herself *rollseyes* wasted vampire powers, much? Even her "super vampire powers" felt cheesy. I just hope the third book is much better and up to par with the first book.
