2.0 out of 5 stars PLEASE read this before making purchase
This CD should come with a warning: the single/video/radio version is not on this Maxi-single. And it does not have 7 different remixes. One is an a cappella version (of the remix). Three are dubs/instrumentals. The last track is another song (which I did not enjoy). Do the math [8 - 1 - 3 - 1 = 3] and what remains is 3 versions that are not accommodating to a trip...

5.0 out of 5 stars Teddy Riley at his best!, June 12, 2007
By
RD "RDnero" (philly, pa usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Don't Want to Fall (Audio CD)
When this single first came out back in like 1990, it was when the whole "New Jack Swing" scene was reaching it stride. I saw an interview with Teddy Riley years ago saying he thought about quitting the music business, before he did this remix. Fortunately he didn't.

The remixes and dubs on this maxi-cd (thank god I found it), encompasses all the signature sounds and breaks that made Teddy's production such a hit in the 90's. The two tracks that stand out for me are track 2, The T.R. Dub and track 6, the T.R. Club-A-Dub, clocking in at a staggering 7:23. With the first dub, its more of the instrumental of the remix, with vocal dubs from Jane Child, and Teddy and his engineer cutting a chopping it lovely.

The T.R. Club-A-Dub is where Mr. Riley gets loose demonstrating his skills on the keys, and dramatic drum programs. And what I appreaciate most about this track (and all the beats on this single), is you get that classic breakdown in the beat, that today's 21st century R&B/Hip Hop songs just don't provide.

If you are fan of the late 80's/early 90's New Jack Swing sound, do yourself a favor and shell out a couple dollars, euros, pesos and get this cd single.

The knife feels good

Three are dubs/instrumentals. The last track is another song (which I did not enjoy). Do the math [8 - 1 - 3 - 1 = 3] and what remains is 3 versions that are not accommodating to a trip down early-1990s-music memory lane, and are not that different from one another. So again, unless the remixes are what U want - DON'T BUY THIS CD. If I already had the original version, this Maxi-single would not have been such a waste of my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars One-hit wonders should go out this way!, March 29, 2003
This review is from: Don't Want to Fall (Audio CD)
This groove wore out the turntable when I first got it. Not only was the single version one of the best songs of the late 80's, the New Jack Swing remixes took the song to a higher level.

I JUMP OUT OF MY SKIN everytime I hear the original of this song. I still say it's one of the hottest dance tracks of all time. Other Amazonians here review this cd well but just remember that it does sound very much from the late eighties and a bit New Editiony in 2006. I agree for the most part with whats written about it but I mostly play the original. Just so you know before you buy...

I love the orignal version of the song as well as the New Jack Swing Remix. I don't care about the other remixes. We need more one hit wonders like Jane Child instead of these so-called artists who want to stay around for years and years and put out [...]. Hoolllaaa!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best singles of all time, February 8, 2003

Actually, "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" was not the first single ever to be released by Child. Apparently, "Welcome to the Real World" was the first single which did not make that much of a dent and then came the monster "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" followed once again in the United States by the previously released "Welcome to the Real World" which would stall overall at #49 on the entire Billboard Hot 100 but reach the United States Singles Sales Billboard Top 40.

"Don't Wanna Fall in Love" was was superbly arranged in its introduction. Portions of "Here Comes the Bride" are on display even amidst "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" and its opposingly earnest denial. That is one of many evident contradictions from this superb multi-instrumentalist who burst onto the scene in 1990 with this single.

The image Child put forth was itself a contradiction : in the video for "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" the sound is more Amy Grant than the sound of 4 Non Blondes however the look is more 4-Non Blondes than Amy Grant. It didn't matter though - the song made Jane a smash reaching number two for three weeks in April of 1990 and number 6 on the R & B chart bolstered by these New Jack style remixes from Teddy Riley which showed Jane's ability to as Donnie Simpson of BET said about Child, "to kick a jam".

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the BEST remixes EVER are on this single!!, April 1, 2008
This review is from: Don't Want to Fall (Audio CD)
I liked the album version of Jane Child's "Don't Wanna Fall in Love" (which is NOT on this CD single, but can be purchased as an Amazon mp3 download or on Child's self-titled album). But Teddy Riley's New Jack Swing remixes take an already catchy track to a whole other level. The first time I heard his NJS remix of "Don't Wanna," I developed a whole new respect for Riley, a producer whose work I already admired. The production on his remixes is flawless, and helped to catapult Child's single to #2 on Billboard back in 1990, when the New Jack Swing sound was at its peak. The NJS Club remix was a club-banger then, and still sounds great today, over 15 years later. I remember reading an interview in which Teddy Riley said he was thinking of getting out of music biz before he did the Jane Child remix. Thank goodness he reconsidered! Obviously, this remix was a sign of excellent things still to come from Riley. Anyone who wants a timeless bit of R & B history that's still sounds as funky now as it did then, must buy this CD!
