This is another great book like "Success without College". I actually bought this first on recommendation. A teacher who does a lot on No Child Left Behind says parents don;t listen when their kids say I don't want to go...and they should. No one is going to be good at a career or major picked out for them, if they stay they will change it costing time and money, and if they are at a community college they could stay 5-7 years AND the credits would not all be transferable, the motivation drains out and end of day, money spent, and still no degree. This is behind the scenes not of whiny kids but as a parent how you can still help guide them. It has resources, interest check lists, internship ideas. Maybe they are too young to make decision now, don't do well academically, don't live away from home. Teach life skills...cooking and laundry. Find a school (Landmark, Me) that has 4 short semesters with one week break, so kids come home more often. Find public jobs that require a test for post, once in, never out, and can test out for higher postings and salaries. The question: what lifestyle do you want? What passion will get you there?
I personally thought this was the better book, very concise, written by a former teacher. would recommend,

Paths to success require patience, commitment, trial and exploration. No magic bullet, but a comprehensive collection of places to investigate.
