Book Description

April 1, 2004
Don't you just hate when you hold the ketchup bottle over your French fries and the first thing that comes out is red water? People who think soy is the solution to all health problems? The fact that Barry Manilow didn't write his hit song, "I Write the Songs"?

Almost as if in answer to Barbara Ann Kipfer's 14,000 Things to Be Happy About (over 1 million copies in print) and its legion of sunny readers, Scott Cohen has compiled an obsessive, hilarious compendium of life's irritations--the myriad little annoyances, vexations, injustices, and petty pretensions that make any sane person cringe. Of course, this is more than snippy waiters or rude drivers who cut you off. It is a finely honed selection of 738 exasperating things, people, situations, complaints, and attitudes that everyone who's ever had a bad day can appreciate. And which will make us all feel better, just because we know someone else is paying attention--at last. Talk about annoying:

Yoga instructors who smoke.

Pets that only show affection right before mealtime.

Tipping someone who hasn't earned it only because you don't want to look cheap.

Late fees for a video you didn't have time to watch.

The second-to-last day of a two-week vacation.

A sneeze that lingers in your nose, doesn't come out, and then is absorbed by your forehead.

When your Cracker Jack has melted into one big Jack.

When your doctor asks if you mind if an intern watches your colonoscopy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The author is spying on my life!, May 14, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Don't You Just Hate That?: 738 Annoying Things (Paperback)
I stumbled upon this book in a book store and knew I had to buy it--this guy is living my life! I have complained to friends and family about many of these exact topics, almost verbatim. "#163--Public restroom sinks with separate faucets for hot and cold water, forcing you to chose between ice-cold and scalding-hot." I was just talking about this the other day! Is it so diffcult to have 1 faucet so you can adjust the temperature? This book made me realize how similar we all are, and no matter where you live or what you do you have to put up with the same stupid stuff every day. Get this book! It will make you realize your problems are probably no worse than anyone else's.

You know something is great when it can make you laugh, out loud, in quiet public places. Even better, when something makes you laugh no matter where you are. Everytime I pick up this book it's a guaranteed smile. This author is clever, humorous, creative and insightful. I'm so glad this little book fell into my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Just Love "Don't You Just Hate That", June 11, 2004

Extremely entertaining read, the author's really hit the mark on so many of the daily trivial things that happen to all of us. There were so many lines in Mr. Cohen's book that gave me that "eureka" moment inside my brain. I highly recommend this book to anyone in search of a good laugh.
