5.0 out of 5 stars For Everyone Who Loves Donuts
The Donut Book is, quite simply, delicious! Author Sally Levitt Steinberg (the "Donut Princess") is a wonderful historian of popular culture. Through the remarkable tale of her family's business, she tells us about the donut in science, art, philosophy, and 20th century America, and of the American dream come true. Along the way, we are treated to stories about donut...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I thought this book would have more recipes in it that I could use. Well, it doesn't. It's a great coffee table book. It's lovely to look at and very informative. If you're looking for the history of donuts and something to read while munching on one, here ya go. If you're looking for a cook book - look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buy a doughnut instead..., December 29, 2008
This review is from: The Donut Book (Paperback)
I don't understand why everyone is so giggly about this book. I thought it would have many recepies and a "how to" make a great donut. The Food Channel has covered most of these donut places. I want to duplicate the kind of donuts found in these great donut places at HOME! Save your money and buy a dozen donuts instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, June 23, 2009

I thought this book would have recipes for making donuts. If you are looking for the history of the donut, then this book is for you. I was disappointed as there were very few recipes and not much on icing or pictures either. I'm returning it.

This book gave more of a history of the donut than it did receipes. Needs more easy donut receipes.

3.0 out of 5 stars not what I thought, April 4, 2009

Although this is a cute little book about the history of donuts, I guess I didn't read thoroughly enough. I thought it was a donut cookbook. There are a few recipes, but not many. It's more of a coffee table book.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK Book, May 19, 2008

HI! I bought this as a gift. As I looked through the book before wrapping it... I was not really happy about the contents. I hoped it would of showed a lot more pictures of donuts, design and recipes. It is really not what I would consider a cookbook/bakebook for donuts. So if that is what your looking for I am sure another book would be much better for you.
The cover design is the only great thing about this book and really the reason I bought it. I thought if they showed that many donuts on the cover Well then there must be loads inside...NOT!.

Through the remarkable tale of her family's business, she tells us about the donut in science, art, philosophy, and 20th century America, and of the American dream come true. Along the way, we are treated to stories about donut shops, donut myths and legends, donut etiquette, and, most temptingly, astonishingly yummy donut recipes. I loved the photos and illustrations - I wanted to take a bite out of this book. It's a perfect book for the holidays, or any time you want to snack.

1.0 out of 5 stars should be called a donut history, October 19, 2009

I purchased this book because amazon recomended it to go with the doughnut baking pan I purchased, however there are no recipes in this book for use with this pan. If you want a history and photos of doughnuts this is fine , but if you want baked doughnut recipes look elsewhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice book BUT alittle disappointed, July 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I purchased "The Donut Book" online from Amazon.com Service and shipping was excellant! HOWEVER The book makes a nice "coffee table book" with lots of donut triva and photos BUT I was alittle disappointed, was expecting more of a "cookbook" with many more recipes and/or hints for making donuts!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun recipes, don't like the organization of the book, July 21, 2010

It wasn't what I pictured. This isn't a normal recipe book. It's a history of donuts with recipes in it. I wish it had more donut recipes.
