Haven't I Heard This Before?,
By Robert Huggins (Suburban Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Doobie Brothers Extended Versions (Audio CD)
This is another in a long list of live recordings that have been culled from previously released material and packaged for Sony/BMG's "Extended Versions" budget line. This time, the ten songs in this live collection from "The Doobie Brothers" is taken from 1996's "Rockin' Down the Highway: The Wildlife Concert," which was a 24-track, 2-CD collection of the band's greatest hits. The major attraction of this release is that it features both Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons on lead vocals, along with Michael McDonald sitting in for a few songs. This represents a good opportunity to pick up live performances of some of the Doobies' greatest hits inexpensively, but those owning the original CD (and another CD culled from it titled "Best of the Doobie Brothers Live") can save their money. There's good playing and good song selection on this release, but Doobie fans have heard it all before.
