Put that "doodle" to work!,
By Barbara Rhoades "Jackie of all Trades" (O'Fallon, MO USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Doodling for Papercrafters (Leisure Arts #4313) (Perfect Paperback)
Maelynn Cheung explains what a doodle is and how it can help you make wonderfully creative scrapbook pages. She talks about all the types of pencils, pens and markers and some extras you can have in your supplies.
This 96 page book has loads of projects with lots of photos. The book doesn't just describe scrapbook pages, it goes on to show other things you can use doodles on such as tote bags, cards, invitations, photo frames, gift bags and a keepsake box. The doodles begin simply and as you progress through the book, they grow more intricate. As each new technique is shown, it is broken down so you can follow how to create it. After you get proficient at the doodle, several projects are shown using that doodle. If you love to doodle, then this is a way to use that ability.

AMAZING BOOK,
By Joyday (Iowa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Doodling for Papercrafters (Leisure Arts #4313) (Perfect Paperback)
Whoever said there were no step by step instructions, obviously was so mesmerized by the photographs she couldn't see the text. There are very detailed instructions along with diagrams to show exactly how to doodle. Ok not every teeny tiny doodle made on the layouts is explained, but some things just don't need explaining. Go through the book, try the doodles in order, and by the end of the book you will have confidence to doodle on your projects and you will be amazed at what you can do with a pen. Then go back through and look at the layouts that don't have "instructions" and I bet you can figure it out. The book is beautiful, it is organized and easy to follow. Well worth the money. I cant believe how much I am saving on rubons, and other fancy things I no longer need because I doodle.

As the author, I'd like to share just a few more things about this book that I think makes it really great.
The best part is that no matter how you feel about doodling, there are layouts/projects in there from people from all over the world, that surely you'd gain inspiration from. (I know I do!) Also, almost all of the projects/layouts were designed by just regular, non-professional, scrapbookers. They're ALL very talented, too. The book has chapters separated mostly by technique... dots and circles, accents, swirls, paisleys, etc. In each chapter there are illustrated step-by-step techniques for each type of doodle. THEN, there are layouts showing how each technique can be used in different ways on actual scrapbook pages. I've also included chapters on tools, storage, ways to make doodling less daunting and more error-proof. I discuss all types of pens. There is a fun chapter on handwriting and lettering. If you don't like your own handwriting, there a few easy techniques that may change it just enough for you to start using it on your pages.... which I think makes your pages VERY personal and you! Anyway, hope you like the book. It's very fun to look at and I've had a bunch of comments on how it really does break doodling down step-by-step. Thanks for reading!

examples not directions,

This review is from: Doodling for Papercrafters (Leisure Arts #4313) (Perfect Paperback)
This book provides more examples of doodling than directions/steps on how to doodle. The majority of examples are from scrapbooking pages submitted by various people. If you're looking for detail on how to doodle this isn't the book for you. If you're looking for ideas on how you can incorperate doodling into scrapbooking/card making the photos and examples may be of use.

Don't be fooled by the cover,
This review is from: Doodling for Papercrafters (Leisure Arts #4313) (Perfect Paperback)
This was a disappointment. The entire book is a compilation of different people's scrapbook pages and the author's comments on the side. It's not very instructional and there are no 'step-by-step' instructions. Any scrapbooking magazine has more information and instructions for only a fraction of the cost. The cover is the best part of the book. If you want a doodling book I recommend "Oodles of Doodles" by Design Originals, it has several alphabet and doodling ideas and instructions.

I was very disappointed in this book. The book is 96 pages and yet contains only 9 actual pages of doodling instruction. The rest looks like a glossy scrapbooking magazine. Pretty but overpriced. If you're looking for doodling tips and hoping that what you see on the cover is what you get on the inside - this book canNOT be judged by it's cover.

A little disappointed by the difference between the title Doodling for Papercrafters and the bias inside for scrapbook pages. Maybe the title should have been Doodling for Scrapbookers. One page of doodle instructions followed by 3 or 4 pages of mainly scrapbooking examples suggests my alternative title might be better.

Good book but not what I was expecting,
This review is from: Doodling for Papercrafters (Leisure Arts #4313) (Perfect Paperback)
I guess I was really looking for a book full of doodling ideas. I felt like there were more layout designs more than anything. But it is still a resourceful book for scrapbookers.

This book came with recommendations from a friend and I was not disappointed at all. I'm not a good drawer/doodler/artist, but there are step by step instructions for all the different doodlig techniques and the LOs are so inspiring that I had to give it a try

I ordered and received this book last Thursday and I spent three wonderful days doodling. This book is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. It unleashed my creativity to produce unbelievable results. People who say that the cover is the only good thing about this book are only looking at things and have not yet discovered the art of "seeing" which is a totally different way of going through life. Dust bonnies are dancing under my bed, the laundry is piling up, but I don't even care, I am doodling to my heart's content. Thanks to the author for sharing.
