Under their banner Forward with Scotlands Past this iconic band have been distilling their own unique version of Scottish spirit, and bottling it in the worlds concert halls, and on disc, for more than 30 years. 'Dookin is the Scots word for what you do at halloween - as in dookin for apples - and that is just what Battlefield Band have doing for all these years dookin into the great pool of Scottish (and Irish) music and song. Indeed they have added to that pool with songs and tunes of their own, to the delight of all. After 30 years, and nearly as many solo and band albums, what can you say? There is always a continuity from one album to the next but from this band of virtuoso and creative musicians, there is always something new and surprising. Newly discovered and self penned songs and tunes, with guests invited not for their celebrity but for their musicianship.

This CD continues the string of fantastic recordings by one of the all-time great Scottish bands. Not to be missed is the classic Robert Burns song, My Love is Like a Red Red Rose, sung by Alan Reid to a new and very lovely tune. Also memorable is Sean O'Donnell on the upbeat song I'm Going to Set You Free. The great Mike Katz on pipes, and Alasdair White on fiddle round out the sound of this soaring collection. If you are not familiar with the band, then this is a great CD to start with - if you are already a fan, then I'm preaching to the choir.

definitely a must have for anyone who is into Battlefield Band, or any celtic/Scottish/World music. fun and thoughtful. i love it and i play it atleast once a week!
