Doom 3 - RoE is a truly great game. It picks up where Doom 3 left off. In my opinion, this game is better than Doom 3 because the action is faster and there's less talking. You don't have to play through 3 boring levels to get to the real action like you did last time. All of the levels are brand new and more enjoyable this time around. That's right, the levels are more spaced out. Plus, there are several new weapons including the double-barrel shotgun. There's also weapon you get in the first level that you can use to control enemy fire and move stuff around. Kind of neat! There are several new enemies too. I like this game. The action is much more fast-paced. The gameplay is the same as Doom 3, but it's still an awesome game nonetheless. This game also includes PC versions of Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 2 Master Levels.

Review for the X Box version of Doom 3:Resurrection of Evil,

If you enjoyed Doom 3, then you should enjoy this game. Both of the Doom 3 games are all about heaping on the tension; combining a creepy atmosphere with enemies that like to attack out of dark corners or from behind. It's definitely a different feel from FPS like, say, HALO, and maybe it's not for everyone. But I dug it.
That being said, I do have some complaints about Resurrection of Evil... first off, the game is substantially shorter then Doom 3-it seems that by the time you get the hang of the new weapons, the game is over. This would be no big deal if you were buying it as an expansion to the PC version, but the X Box item is a game unto itself. And it is actually more expensive then Doom 3! On top of this, the game didn't seem to be as polished as Doom 3: there are problems with sound synchronization, blocky visual artifacts and, on more then a few occasions, the frame rate starts choking. I had none of these problems with the first game. As I said, I liked the game. But the combination of the flaws, the short game, and the price, made it less enjoyable then the first Doom 3.

First off i would like to say that in my opinion resurection of evil is not better than the other doom3 but is a great add on to the already perfected doom3. This game doesn't lack much except for the fact that the stages are shorter. This i didnt like, if it was just expanded a couple stages more and made longer this game would be perfect. But i think this game is better weapons wise. You get most of your weapons in the first 3 stages, and not like in the other doom3 were you got a gun per stage. :P otherwise this is an exact replica of the other doom3.
But this is cool because you go back to previous stages in the other doom3(portal to hell, hell, teleporting bay, the stage were you fight the first dog demon thingy, and the very first stage of doom3) so its pretty well thought out and loads of fun Well in this doom3 there are 2 new foes and 2 new weapons to choose from. -well im not sure what the 2 new enemies are called but there called something. -The two new weapons are a gravity gun and sarges double barrel shotgun.(which is my favorite weapon) I also think the shotgun is the most affective throughout the game until you get the rocket launcher and the plasma rifle. But also in this doom 3 you get a pretty cool artafact that gives you skills of destroyed foes. It is like a soul steeler err something. -well anyways you get 3 skills(but not right away) 1. is where you kill a big teleporting beast, this gives you the power to move at tremendious speeds, everything is slow motion except you!! very cool. 2. is were you kill another huge beast that has a diferent power, this gives you the power of berserker. berserker gives you the power to attack 3X as effective when you shoot an enemy, basically 1 hit kill with sarges double barrel. 3. the third boss when defeated gives you invunerability. this allows you to walk on any terain. which is useful in hell and fighting the final boss. ALL THESE SKILL are used at once and you must activate the artifact to do so. You need to steel souls of dead marines and othe people to charge the artifact. I would also encourage you to get the first doom3 before buying this game, because you wouldn't know whats going on and you wouldn't know the full story. errr bye them both at once and play doom3 first.

Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil,

This is the expansion from Doom 3, so naturally it's not going to be the same length. Granted the price tag of thirty-five dollars for an expansion pack is extreme in itself. Honestly, it's ridiculous and should be longer than the average expansion. Unfortunately, after playing this, I don't think the story line should have been shorter. Maybe the production costs exceeded what the developers planned, or someone wants to cash in somewhere. Frankly, I think it was the right length for the story told rather than delving into tedium. But people do have merit in their complaint for such an outrageous price. I recommend waiting until you can get it used for a more reasonable price of twenty dollars (standard expansion price tag these days).
Anyway, on to the actual review. It looks like the developers tried to fix some of the things that people disliked in the first Doom 3 installment. For example the pistol has a flashlight on its end. A smarter move would have been to have a flashlight that attaches to your head, because that would actually make a lot more sense, ah well... at least you can shoot enemies while holding the light this time. The other thing that seems to have changed is that the game is a lot brighter for the most part. This was a huge improvement from the original Doom 3. There are really only two sections of the game where you are plunged into absolute darkness, so it doesn't feel nearly as daunting or annoying. On top of these changes they had two new weapons which were the double barreled shot gun and this other guy that affected gravity. Basically it's like the gravity gun from Half Life 2. Real original... I know. They also have a few more new enemies like the Hunters. I think they were the giant creatures that shot rockets at me at least. They were a lot more challenging than some of the other creatures in Doom 3, so these were a pretty good addition. For the most part this game plays just like Doom 3 aside from the above mentioned changes, so to read about the rest of the game check out my review of Doom 3. The part of this game that was pretty lacking to me was the story line, which is why it got knocked down to three stars. At the end of Doom 3 you're left feeling that it is definitely left open for a sequel. However, the way they tied the two games together was pretty poor. After all the craziness in Doom 3, the researchers on the planet went right back to what they were doing before? And the part that confuses me after this game is that it sort of sounds like the threat of Hell coming into our dimension is closed forever... so does that mean they can't make another Doom? I don't know, the Doom story line was so misshapen that it was just hard to follow as you went along in the game... not to mention you're left wondering if you're the same marine from Doom 3? Nothing is mentioned about your character! I think one thing that also made the story feel a little less involving was the PDA's didn't have that many voice reports. I thought these were ingenious in the first game because it really felt you were affected by what's going on. Nothing says "get involved" like hearing real people's voices make reports. I thought it added a lot to the FPS atmosphere. There were a lot of PDA's to find throughout the game, but it didn't drive the story nearly as much as it did in Doom 3. So this lackluster play in a roughly six hour game really diminished the experience. Don't get me wrong, the environments were awesome, but the point of being there was really not clear. If you liked Doom 3, then it is definitely worth getting the expansion pack. You don't get nearly as clear of a story line as in the first game, but you do get a conclusion to the game. Granted I had a hard time following the point of the story, but you find out what happened to your enemy that was around at the end of Doom 3. Anyway, they made some marginal improvements, but they could have done a lot better. Maybe I'm just spoiled because Half Life 2: Episode 1, had a superb story line with a cliffhanger ending that made me want more and Doom 3 just doesn't deliver that.

If you know me or at least have read some of my reviews, you know I'm a huge DOOM fanatic. For example, DOOM 3 is by far the best DOOM game ever. So i.d. software decided to make an expansion pack for DOOM 3. This was soon to be called: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil. Now was this a good idea or a bad idea. Some might recommend this game to be manufactured, but on the other hand, some might beg to differ. But of course, you are reading this to see my perspective of the game. So what do what I think... this was a pretty damn good game! But this doesn't even touch DOOM 3. Want to know why? Well, a lot of it wasn't done much to the game. I mean, it kind of looks the same. But even the graphics aren't as good. And besides, wasn't this game supposed to be an expansion or at least some what of a sequel to DOOM 3? This game is practically a stand-alone game. But after all of the flack I have given this game, I still think this is a great DOOM game and it does deserve 5 stars. But if you're going to get a DOOM game, just get DOOM 3. It's much better. Goodnight!!

This game expands on doom 3 with a couple of new games and a pistol with a flash light. i just recently got a regular xbox for a gift and i was looking for old reto games to buy for it. i loved the first doom and couldnt wait for the 4th one to come out so i bought this to hold me over. the game is an alright deal for the money i spent but i beat it in less then 5 hours. its definitely an expansion and not a full fledged game. cant wait for the 4th doom to come out

Just so that you know, Doom 3 is better, this add-on does not really add anything new besides the super shotgun and the new demon artifact. The biggest gameplay difference between Doom 3 and ROE is the the new demon artifact give you new powers that you can use after each new boss enemy has been slain, those powers include FEAR style slow motion mode, not being able to lose health, and inflicting super high amount of damage. However, the artifact and the other weapons besides the super shotgun are not as useful as in the pc verion. The reason for that is that in the pc version you can switch between weapons without problems and thus you can select "the weapon for any given situation". But in the Xbox version you have to press a button on the controller over and over to get to the weapon that you want to use, and that takes time so you could as well just use the super shotgun and kill your enemy's that way instead of wasting time scrolling between weapons. And trust me, this REALLY does make the pc version better! The super shotgun also damages the weapon balance, sine it is more or less the best gun in the game there is no real reason not to use it unless you don't have any more ammo for it. The levels look more or less the same as those in Doom 3 with a few differences. There are some new enemy's but they just feel like new version of older Doom 3 enemy's not counting the final boss. There also aren't many scary moment's like there were in Doom 3 and that's also a very bad thing. Then we have the extras, i bough the Doom 3 collectors edition that came with bonus features that included interviews, concept are, and most importantly the old original Doom games: The Ultimate Doom and Doom 2. The extra features in ROE only includes the Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 plus the Doom 2 master levels, no new interviews or concept arts are included. The Doom 2 master levels were not created by it itself, instead they contain maps that were created by the Doom mapping community and considered good enough by ID to be released as a Id software product, i have only taken a look at about 1/4 of those levels, and thus far.......the more or less SUCK!!!
And since i have been playing fan made Doom/Doom 2 maps for years on the PC i know what a good community made map/level looks like, and the Master levels just don't add all that much to the Xbox classic Doom experience since they are not good at all, i mean why did they not decide to include Final Doom instead? It's not as good as the Original Doom but still a billion times better then the Master levels. Overall, i would say that this is a solid Doom 3 add-on for Doom 3 on the xbox, there is nothing really new here, it's just more of the same, also the game is very short and can probably be beaten in only one or two sittings. But if you really want more Doom 3 on the Xbox then go ahead and buy this, it's really cheap these day's anyways since the game has gotten old, you can probably find it in a bargain bin. Overall, i will give this game 3/5 stars.

I absolutely loved Doom 3. The graphics, the gameplay and the classic Doom feel is just incredible. With the expansion, you get a whole new story, some new monsters, and more importantly, new levels to play. Although it is much shorter than Doom 3 (Keep in mind that it's just an expansion), ROE gives you slightly faster-paced gameplay and some breathtaking new areas. As an added bonus, you get the double-barreled shotgun, which is man's new best friend. And, once you beat the game, you can play classic Doom and Doom 2 as well as the Doom 2 master levels. This is a must-buy for all Doom fans.

I loved Doom 3, despite it being a really pretty game with no depth. This really isn't too different. There are a few difference in weapons and objects, and it's pretty short, but since it's an expansion, that's all that's expected. This is a fun game, and if you can get it cheap enough, it's worth it. If you didn't like the first, you propable won't be converted on this one.
