The Imperor Trilogy...Awesome beginning with Doom Dynasty!, November 18, 2000
This review is from: Doom Dynasty (Outlanders) (Mass Market Paperback)
Usually when an on going series takes a "special" path in order add more depth or a surprising turn of events and does such things as a trilogy withing the series itself, it can be disappointing because lack of continuity with the previous installments or lack of description or completness in the idea trying to be set forth. In the newest installment of the Outlanders series, Book one of the Imperor Wars -- Doom Dynasty, the author [whose proper name I will withhold because I do not know if it is proper to reveal it as James Axler is a very well known nome de plume] has conquered this challenge successfully and quite thrillingly. Again, which is the author's signature, he weaves both action and situations with in depth characterization that only leaves you wanting for the next installment. His characters are very human (and in some cases in-human!)in their responses and the reader can actually understand and/or sympahtize/empathize with what is happening. It is the feeling of personal identification with the characters that draws the reader in deeper into the plot and situation of the story. And which makes the surprising turns of plot and character's insights all the more startling. For those who follow the Outlanders series as I do, I am not disappointed with the way the author has integrated the past facts of the series with new information. It flows both logically and smoothly that a dedicated reader is not bored with what some other series books often turn into "tedious review" of the past. In fact, for those who have not read any of the previous books would find this an easy introduction to the Outlanders series. There is enough information for novice readers to understand what the entire series is based on, yet be able to enjoy the fresh new turn the series has taken. Either way, the end will leave the reader waiting in eager anticipation for the next installment--Tigers of Heaven, Book II of the Imperor Trilogy.

Doom Dynasty by an amazing imaginative author!, November 19, 2000
This review is from: Doom Dynasty (Outlanders) (Mass Market Paperback)
Doom Dynasty is the next installment in the Outlanders series. Right when you think it cannot get any better, it does! The first OL book was extremly exiting and well written. Then the next one came out and it was even better, then the 3rd one came out and that one was superior to the first two. That is how Outlanders is: each book that is released gets better and better. With this series you cannot lose. It has Action, Adventure, Sci-fi, Sociology, Romance, History, Mystery, Philosophy, Fantasy, and more, supported by very strong essential characters that collide with eachother in both positve and negative terms. From the fearsome, heroic, good-natured Kane, to the intelligent, good-hearted and enlightened Brigid Baptiste, to the ambitous, power hungry Cobalt, to my personal favorite, the old, intelligent and schemeful Balam. The series, plots and subplots are exciting and also supported with historic facts that doesn't just keep the reader intuned, but also is somewhat of a history lesson, added with philosophy, and shrouded with mystery. This series is listed as Sci-Fi, in terms of catagory, but that only a very small portion mentioned. This book- this series, is for everyone: to the ex-veteran that likes books about war, to the Historical intuned readers. Also, a large portion of Outlanders deals with UFO's, aliens, and so forth. If you are into Aliens and have not picked up an Outlander book you have no idea how much you're missing. Not only does the author tell the historic facts behind alien abductions, myths, and tales, it gives a supportive background. This new book, the first in the Imperator Wars trilogy was truly one of the best, and in my opinion, is superior to Stephen King. This book keeps you excited and wanting more when the pages run out. In fact, as I may have said before: the thing I dislike about the series, is waiting for the next book. Outlanders is one of the best imaginations of our time. I gave this listing a 5, but that number hardly does it justice.

OUTLANDERS MEETS X-FILES!, November 11, 2000
This review is from: Doom Dynasty (Outlanders) (Mass Market Paperback)
Doom Dynasty is the 1st of an all new trilogy that starts with a bang and leaves you with a cliffhanger and wanting more! This series just like X-files, leaves you with questions and mysteries about us and the universe surrounding us. It's an action/adventure novel with true brain teasers and insight. The ideas and concepts in this novel are mindboggling but so fun to read. The story starts out with a bang as per Mark Ellis's style, with Mags attacking and destroying a small ville and taking few prisoners as slaves. Kane and his trio of friends are right behind them in pursuit, all the while fighting off mutie insects and snakes. They happen to encounter some bright new characters in the desert - samurai warriors! These colorful and interesting new characters enrich the series to a new level and a new love interest is in the works as well. As the series goes on, the characters evolve and grow and that is what makes a successful series. You see some new sides of Grant and Domi in this one and it makes for an interesting read. For true fans as well as new readers alike: you must read this book! You can catch on here and get hooked if you have not read the past novels, or for you fans - Balam is back (finally), and is not a very happy camper! Can't wait for the next one of this new and exciting trilogy - Tigers of Heaven! Enjoy
