Biography

Until 1996 Clint Mansell was best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the British alternative rock band Pop Will Eat Itself. After PWEI disbanded he began a successful solo career as a soundtrack composer.

In 1996 Mansell was asked to score the film π by his friend, Darren Aronofsky. Initially unnoticed, the score gained a certain following after its inclusion on the soundtrack album. Buoyed… Read more in Amazon's Clint Mansell Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Friggin Good Score, November 20, 2005
This review is from: Doom (Score) (Audio CD)
I personal LOVED this soundtrack. The hard beats, hard guitar, and hard techno all combined to make one hell of a good soundtrack. The songs that really show all those first three elements are:
2. Doom 3:14
11. Destroyed 2:29
14. Containment Breach 1:52
18. Mass Onslaught 2:20
19. First Person Shooter 4:47 ( one of my favorite tracks )
21. Go To Hell 4:12 ( another one of my favorites )
All the other songs are the slower, slight, scary music that is seen in the calmer, talking, mystery solving, lab scenes in the movie. They can be nice to listen to also ;)
The last track by Nine Inch Nails goes with the track nicely, with the hard beats, drums, and guitar...remized with DooM's technoish feeling. All together it makes a nice track i would recommend. I would also recommend the movie, if your the kinda person that likes mindless fun-filled movies hahahahaha.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Score, January 26, 2008
This review is from: Doom (Score) (Audio CD)
In an age where movie soundtracks are becoming nothing more than a showcase for whichever bands could afford to have their name slapped all over a movie, or have half of one of their songs played during some inspirational montage in the movie, it's refreshing to hear a Motion Picture Score that's exactly that; a score. It's not a collection of songs by the most popular pop/alternative bands at the time the movie came out. It's an honest-to-god score with just about every single note of music that occurred during the movie.

Clint Mansell does a wonderful job creating dark, dreary moods and intense periods with his music. The soundtrack by itself can sometimes be quiet and brooding, but often comes back en force. I found it works very well as background music for table-top role-playing games, actually, and also a wonderful disc to study too when lyrics are too distracting.

To be honest I'm still on the fence about the Nine Inch Nails song. It's my personal opinion that Trent's work has declined GREATLY over the years, but that's just my opinion.

Overall, a pretty darned good score.

5.0 out of 5 stars The soundtrack MADE the movie, January 7, 2006
This review is from: Doom (Score) (Audio CD)
Alright, folks, I really didn't think the movie was all that bad. All you DOOM nerds need to get a life, because you should know by now that Hollywood NEVER gets a video-game adaptation right. (I've been a loyal DOOM fan since '93, so I know what I'm talking about. To prove it, it takes 5-6 missiles to bring down a Baron of Hell.)

Anyways, onto the soundtrack. YES! This soundtrack is quite simply the best movie soundtrack I have listened to in 2005. Clint Mansell really captured the TRUE essence of DOOM in this soundtrack, and I believe that the soundtrack really makes the movie more enjoyable to watch. Buy this soundtrack; you really won't regret it.
