Pretty good, but a little disappointing,

This CD is the thing every SP fan has been waiting for--finally Skinny Puppy have reunited temporarily and made a CD of their one-off live show in Dresden, Germany. This CD is pretty cool, it has a great selection of choice Skinny Puppy hits and is very intense and in-your-face but on the other hand is a little weak. The first thing about it that could use some improvement is the vocals. Although lots of people liked the fact that Orge didn't use that much voice distortion on this album, I think that he *should* have used the same voice distortion he used on the CD versions of these songs. "Testure" and "Dig it" are 2 of my fave SP songs but because they don't have the trademark scary vampire-like vocal distortion on the CD versions and are sung with Ogre's normal voice, they don't sound half as good. The same goes for many other tracks except for "Killing Game" and "Harsh Stone White" which are performed pretty much exactly the same as their CD versions. Another thing that could use improvement is the albums' artwork. The booklet is only 2 pages long (not counting the back+front covers) and comprises of a mishmash of blurred and altered live photos from the concert. Its kinda cool and artistic, but in my opinion I think the booklet should have had more pages in it and more normal, clear photos and putting in the songs lyrics wouldn't have hurt either. Still, I am not completely disappointed with this CD because of its merits-good track selection, excellent instrumental playing, and the 6 or so tracks that are sung the same as on the CD. In conclusion, I'd say this is a nice treat for any Skinny Puppy fan, new or old, but I'd suggest you take a listen at your local CD store first.

Amazing live cd!,

this cd is of the Dresden Germany aug 2000 reunion show. However, there are a few songs missing (Choralone, Hardset Head, Nature's revenge and Smothered Hope). 3 due to timing issues, while HsH due to legal issues. Hardset head was intended to be on the cd, but nettwerk did not get the rights until it was too late. However, they have since gotten the rights and released the song as a 320bitrate mp3. This cd sounds great. The versions of the songs never sounded better!! My only gripe would be there is a lack of improv, but that could be explained as they were trying to get as many songs on this release as possible. AIDY? is still my fav live SP, but this cd still f-ing rulz!! I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who likes/loves SP.

Brap 5 is EXCELLENT! i repeat: EXCELLENT! the wait was totally worth it! all the tracks are perfectly done. lots of new sounds and dynamics were added to the songs. it's such a powerful performance. it's non-stop. not a dull moment. i guess if you are looking for Brap 5 and reading this, you already know everything that has led up to this event and record. cEv and Ogre have done a wonderful job, as well as all who were involved in this effort.SP never gives you a dull moment. GET THIS ALBUM!

best mixed live album since RAMMS+EIN's Live Aus Berlin!,

as I am new to Skinny Puppy... all I can say is that it sounds like the actual CD versions, except Ogre has a different style and there are a few changes/improvisations in the lyrics, music and layers of instruments. if I had listened to every single album by Puppy I could go in to greater detail. anyways, it's not at all sloppy. I haven't heard a live CD this good since Ramms+ein's Live Aus Berlin disc or Ministry's In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up. but it's obviously live... Ogre comes in a bit late on tin omen, but comes across as an excellent sounding reversion.unfortunately, like Ramms+ein's disc... a few things were cut... it this case... Hardset Head. but! it's got Dig It and The Choke... so I'm happy. my guess is that something was supposed to be after Dig It... as you will notice a fade out. there are miscillaneous improvisations that were also cut out of the CD and also 3 or 4 songs, but are available as MP3 bootlegs. this CD probably won't be in your CD player all the time unless you're hardcore... but, it's just another excellent job by Skinny Puppy. a funny thing is that the linear notes in the booklet contain credits for the actual tour. maybe it's not so unusual as the people should be credited for what they did, but I think... this may be their compensation for not being seen on video ... other things about this CD... it's 67:48 (m:s) long, it was edited/produced by Greg Reely and the artwork is by Dave McKean (no s#!t... it's obvious). McKean's art really isn't that great on the front. even though he did it personally. I hope you could understand my rambling... I guess that's all I can say right now. I would buy those two DVDs that came out, but from what I hear... the VHS is just as good, if not better! "what a head trip!" :over&out:

It lacks the emotion of Ain't It Dead Yet. Don't get me wrong, theres plenty of emotion on this performance but certainly not the same caliber as Ain't It Dead Yet? The best tracks on here would probably have to be Love In Vein, Inquisition, Worlock, Testure and Harsh Stone White. My other big complaint would have to be that the drums on Deep Down Trauma Hounds lacked the pounding, heavy sound that you would expect from this song. Other than that though this is a great live cd and I highly recommend it.

Not a bad cd. For those of us who care, there could be no better news than skinny puppy's return. I don't need to tell serious fans to buy this, if they haven't already they will. But given how amazing Aint it dead Yet is (there first live album- which has an outstanding set list and in many cases superior versions to the studio albums), this record is disapointing. people who are just exploring Skinny Puppy should definetly pick up Ain't it Dead Yet before this one. That ranks amoung their best, studio or live. Although there are some great songs on here, the overall set list is just ok. Alot of great songs missing and alot of songs present I skip even on the albums. With Dwanes absence, this album basically is prerecorded tape of the music with cevin drumming along and Ogre singing minus the filtered vocals. They haven't played in years and it shows. Had this been a tour rather than a one off performance I'm sure by the 6th or 7th show we would have gotten a much stronger album. But all things being equal, it's still fun sometimes.

What a vibrant energetic CD this is. It's amazing to see the energy SP still have even years after their "break up." The song selection is great and it is nice to hear the live versions of some of these songs for the first time (at least for me) Many of them are even better than the original studio versions. I can't say enough good things about this album. It is solid, consistent, well produced and mixed, and I feel a step above the live material from Back and Forth 3&4 and Ain't It Dead Yet. Sorry there was no material from the Process, but my understanding this was for legal reasons. BRAP ON!

Good live album, but nothing off the Process?,

I wonder why they didn't play anything off the process? (Too Painful?) That is what really would have sent this album over the top as compaired to "Ain't it dead yet" which is the best industrial live album ever. I did appreciate the upbeat songs included (Tin Omen) but too much of it seemed like they were going throught the motions-still 10X better than whats being put out their now.
