2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, poor story
I found the ideas behind this story very interesting and relevant. However, the writing and the storytelling were terrible. I finished it but ended up scanning the last third of the book just to get it over with.

This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
First of all, this is a great inside look at the publishing business. There are a lot of big names mentioned that any reader will recognize both from the book world and motion picture world. The Doomsday Report starts in today's time and goes forward, envisioning a world that is affected by a book which accurately predicts the end of humanity through global warming in the next forty years. There is a disturbing scene in which 16 young men and women seize a restaurant and terrorize 26 customers along with over 20 employees in a night of violence filled with unspeakable acts. The horror of the night is captured on video by one of the gang members is shown on television to the point of saturation.

A new craze on the highways replaces road rage - it is called Bomping. Bomping is when you drive down the wrong side of the road at speeds in excess of over 100 miles per hour and see if you can cross over to the far left lane and get back to the right hand lane, catchin! g the next exit. If successful you score 3 points. If not, well the doomsday clock is ticking anyway. If you happen to have a video camera mounted on your dash you can leave a legacy behind you on the news. Of course the book, known as The Belaqua Report is disputed and suspicion starts to grow as to what the motives really are behind the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Had to force myself realizing that it is only fiction. WOW!, June 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
My respect to Dr. Brynners latest work. In the first place it is his excellence of choosing the right words for a complex content. Those of us who read all his other novels appreciate Dr. Brynners talent of investigative poetry - and me (as probably many others as well) sometimes have to make sure that the Doomsday Report is Fiction. The story seems so real and is well researched in its details. It should make us all think and reflect what's going on on this planet. I couldn't put it down - the last page came too soon. Thank you, Dr. Brynner, for a lesson combined with highend entertainment!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I have read in a long time, June 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
Entertaining and thought-provoking, The Doomsday Report offers the best of everything: it's a real page-turner, very well written, fascinating and hilariously funny, while challenging the ways you may think about this planet and one of the most important issues humanity has to face: global warming. I couldn't put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has had a profound affect on my understanding of t, July 18, 1998

This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
Like Franco, the information compiled from the research for this book affected me profoundly. The fragility of our planet as portrayed here is real. Once started I was compelled to finish. This book should be compulsory reading for all educators! I will be looking for other titles by Rock Brynner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brynner's heroine, Terry, is a Holly Golightly for the 90's., June 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
Rock Brynner's impressive "Doomsday Report" combines wit, suspense and knowledge to unveil a hypothetical scenario in which the world might find itself in the not to distant future. Ecological enthusiasts and apathetic individuals alike will enjoy this read. The characters are nuanced; their moral ambiguities ring true to real life. The delicious heroine, Terry, is a Holly Golightly for the nineties. She takes life by storm and the reader cannot help but want to be part of her journey or at the very least to be able to read about it. Rock Brynner has watered our voyeuristic palate and leaves us waiting to peer into many of his future characters' lives.

By A Customer
This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
Although the author claims, that most of the book is fictional, it changed my life. Now I see the world in a new way. I bought a lot of copies to give them to my friends, because I think, everyone should read this book. But it's not only the content, it's also a fascinating, thrilling story. I could not put it down!

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
The Doomsday Report: A Novel "The Doomsday Report" by Rock Brynner, (Yul's son), is a hilarious, intelligent, imaginative book about an environmental publishing hoax and world-wide reactions to it. RB was as gutsy with words as his father was in expressing his brand of full blooded movie emotions, actions, and body language.

This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
Rock Brynner has captured the essence of the catastrophe awaiting us all in the very near future, and he backs it up with solid scientific data. The book is very entertaining and should serve as a wake-up call for us all.

2.0 out of 5 stars If you like Made For TV movies..., July 21, 1998
This review is from: The Doomsday Report: A Novel (Hardcover)
After reading the synopsis, I was disappointed to learn that this book failed to live up to its potential. The author chose a great deal of topics to write about, but because he never went into any of them in great detail, you kind of got the feeling you were reading a Made For TV movie. The only detail he seemed to delve into was the sex scenes between the two main characters which served no useful purpose to the novel other than to allow the author to write about some adult fantasy of his.
