Biography

The Orioles were a successful and influential American R&B group of the late 1940s and early 1950s, one of the earliest such vocal bands who established the basic pattern for the doo-wop sound.

The Orioles are generally acknowledged as R&B’s first vocal group. These Baltimore natives blended rhythm with group harmonies. Dubbing themselves after Maryland’s state bird, The Orioles started the trend… Read more in Amazon's The Orioles Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonny Til's Orioles Strike Another Golden Release!!!!, March 11, 2002

This review is from: Door Is Still Is Open (Audio CD)
Sonny Til's Orioles, one of the finest recording vocal groups to come out of the R&B music field. Has another hit release with "The Door Is Still Open", one of the finest if not the best release from this popular recording group of the early 1950's!

One can just sit back, close their eyes and enjoy the material on this release. Long overdo by this group, is a release that will show their multi-talents and showmanship...this release does just that and then some!

I can't wait to hear what they will do next in the studio, how about something recorded live during one or several of their great entertaining live appearances? The true fan of the late Sonny Til, who has followed this great group from their early beginnings....will not be disappointed at all! They do every song on this release, from the heart! And this group is known internationally, as a great entertaining unit---now they have proved it with this release!

A must for any true collector of R&B, to have in their collection of great vocal artists of the 1950's. Still performing after 50 years in the music industry, that alone is worth the price of this true collectors release!!!!
