Book Description

August 1, 1998
Dierdre MacCallum is summoned to her great-grandmum Bridget's house to settle her affairs. She opens the sun room's french doors to the sunlight-- and finds a doorway to the past, seventy-two years ago.

There she will meet great-grandmum as a young lady. She will find love with a man destined to die before she was born. And she will find danger as she uncovers Bridget's secret--her involvement with the infamous Alistair Crowley, whose dabblings in the dark powers promise destruction for the MacCallum clan.

Now Dierdre must set things right, and rescue both her family, and her one true love...

More About the Author

Elaine Bergstrom was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and is the product of 16 years of Catholic education which, she is sure, has strongly affected her work. Her first novel, Shattered Glass, was among the first vampire romances and created a family of vampiric immortals -- powerful, eternal but with some odd constraints on their natures. It was set in her hometown and the church she attended as a child. It received critical acclaim, including a Stoker nomination, and has been followed by four other novels of the Austra family. Under the pseudonym Marie Kiraly (her grandmother's name), she has written two Dracula sequels: Mina...the Dracula Story Continues and Blood to Blood. She resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she runs a novel writing workshop, freelances as a TV and film critic, takes care of too many cats, and writes grumpy old lady letters to her congressmen and local papers. You can get additional information on her books and upcoming appearances at elainebergstrom.com
The kindle edition of Shattered Glass is the "author's cut" version -- including 10,000 words not included in the original paperback.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real "fun read" for anyone interested in the magickal arts, August 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Door through Washington Square (Paperback)
This book provides a fictitious account of one brief period in the life of the notorious Aleister Crowley. His followers loved him, others despised him and many feared him and his strange magickal rituals. What possible effect could a ritual performed many, many years ago by Aleister Crowley and Dierdre MacCallum's grandmother, Bridget, have on the present day?

Dierdre learns the truth from her dying grandmother and must try to set things right and thus preserve her family history and save her true love.

An interesting cast of characters.

I think anyone with an interest in the occult will find this novel very hard to put down until you have finished it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book really stays with you long after you've read it!, July 23, 1998

This review is from: The Door through Washington Square (Paperback)
I found the storyline incredibly fascinating and fresh. Time travel has of course been written about but not in this manner. You really felt like you have become one the characters. The concept of a door in Grandmum's house, made during the 1920's is great. It makes you realize that people in the first part of this century were just as naughty as today! This book has little bit of everything in it - magick, romance, intrigue and suspense. I loved it! The book has also opened a real door through time, for now I want to read Aleister Crowley's books as well! Wonderful book, please write many more!
