Thinking of Buying this? Don't., August 11, 2002
This review is from: The Doors - Greatest Hits [Elektra] (Audio CD)
I wrote a review of this a while ago, but for some reason it posted as an anonymously, and I finally decided to go back and update, making sure it posted on my name. Most of the reviews here suggest that this is a good CD to buy if you are looking to get into The Doors but don't want to buy the individual albums. Well, they are wrong. This CD not only doesn't represent The Doors well, but also the songs here are edited. Back when I first was getting into classic rock, this is the first Doors CD that I bought, and let me tell you, I listened to this and nothing but this CD for at least a week straight when I got it. BUT, after buying The Doors debut album, I discovered that about 8 MINUTES (!!) of the End is completely edited out. You are left with just some of the parts used in the movie Apocalypse Now. Now, if you have listened to this "version" of the End, you may think "Hey, this is pretty cool" and you will listen to it a couple times and thats it (that's what I did anyway). YOU ARE TOTALLY MISSING OUT on what I believe to be one of the greatest songs ever. Also, on Break On Thru, it seems like Jim is saying "she get...she get" instead of what he actually says "she gets high, she gets high". Also you are missing out on so many other great songs such as When the Music's Over, Five to One, Whiskey Bar, Spanish Caravan, Unkown Soldier, etc. Don't worry though. The Best of the Doors, a 2-CD set has all these songs in their completely unedited glory. It has any song a beginner could possibly want, actually. And a few that you don't know about yet, but will instantly love. So please, don't buy this. You'll be doing yourself a favor to spend a couple more dollars on the 2-CD set. If you buy this junk you'll just be throwing it away because you will eventually move on to the 2-CD set anyway, or even the individual albums.

Despite its "Enhanced" status, this album cannot be recommended above the "Best of the Doors" Two-CD set which is also commonly available. The songs on this album are superb pieces of music, but the aforementioned remaining Doors compilation album contains all the songs found here, with the exception of "The Ghost Song", and many more, for generally only a minimally higher cost. In juxtaposition, the "Best of the Doors" has quite a bit more worth than this comparatively meager album.

All You Need (Or At Least All I Need) From The Doors, April 23, 2000
This review is from: The Doors - Greatest Hits [Elektra] (Audio CD)
This is an excellent collection of Doors songs, and I don't believe it's missing anything crucial. I am not a "die-hard" Doors fan, and for anyone else who isn't, but still really enjoys their music, I definitely highly recommend this. From the very calm, low key "Riders on the Storm" to the upbeat blues-style "Love Me Two Times" to the fast, harsh "Break On Through" to their most famous classic, "Light My Fire", this CD has a great variation of Doors songs. I also was introduced to some of their songs I had never heard before that I now enjoy a lot such as "Love Her Madly". "People Are Strange" is also one of the top songs on there. To put it simply, my Doors collection is complete with this CD.
