Hardcore Dancehall, July 7, 2000
This review is from: Doorslam (Audio CD)
The Doorslam is the newest hardcore dancehall riddim for Harvel Hart's Annex Records label. An all-star lineup was assembled with the top dancehall singers and DJ's including Capleton, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas, Sizzla, Ward 21, and many more hot artists. This album seems targeted at radio and club DJ's so they can have all the artists on one riddim together in one place. For the average dancehall listener a CD with 20 tracks with the same riddims would be monotonous, but there are a handful of standout tracks on this marginal riddim called the Doorslam. Ghost's cover version of Mike and the Mechanics 1980s pop song "Living Years" is nicely done, as well as the red hot Capleton with "Bust It." Mr. Vegas' two contributions are among the better tracks as well as Ward 21's outrageous delivery on "This Means War." This CD is one for club and sound system DJ's, and the very hardcore of dancehall fans to bounce to with star studded line up.
