4.0 out of 5 stars We have all been there, June 30, 2008
This review is from: Dope Slap Soup (Audio CD)
McAllister's got some strong messages that are going to appeal to the human condition as well. You listen with a laugh and a wry headshake. And yes, sometimes you want to shout, "Amen, Brother!"

We have all experienced the drunken Uncle, the gossiper, the cousin in his BVDs that he's writing about in "Can't Pick Your Relatives."

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with "$127 Sandwich." I admit, I had a "$500 Lollipop" thanks to a bump in the road that broke my tooth, but I think Randy beat my story with this one.

"Hardheaded" is another Texas word for `stubborn mule headed.' Forget the whole "Men are From Mars" thing, I think McAllister has the situation between the sexes pegged here.

"Clear My Head" the opener, talks about `too much traffic and too much information.' And yes, we all need to clear our heads--roots music is a great way to do that.

Rebecca Kyle, June 2008

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs About You, December 23, 2007
This review is from: Dope Slap Soup (Audio CD)
Texas white boy funky music with observant, humorous, narrative lyrics. Thank you, Mr. McAllister, for reminding us that some of the greatest commentators in music come from the Lone Star State. He's a spokesman for the common man, who manages to get by in life despite the fact that life is often hard, lonely and discouraging.
With seven records under his belt, growing international recognition as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter and a broad, busy tour schedule, RM still keeps up his myspace page and e-correspondence.
Pounding, driving, twangy-Texas guitar backing female vocals and the close, heavy influence of Bo Diddley and all his monster spiritual progeny. A CD cover that includes lyrics that are great lyrics you'll read until you memorize them, because he's written these songs about you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, November 1, 2007

Randy McAllister strikes so many hearts and pulls heartstrings, I cannot understand why he is not national. When the rest of the country discovers him and his band I can say I saw him back when.

Tight blues, a voice that is soul-filled and honest, Randy and his band lead us though Americana songs and styles.

He and his band are truly treasures and GREAT DRIVING music!
