3.0 out of 5 stars Ehhhhh
I've been on an Ashley an JaQuavis run lately, and this book was good but I didn't love it. Yes the story was interesting, but it was just all over the place. First Nautica and Zion with their relationship, then five minutes later Nautica is with Tical. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't put the book down it had lots of suspense, but something was just missing. I didn't...

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Put You Up On Game...', June 27, 2009
This review is from: The Dopeman's Wife: Part 1 of Dopeman's Trilogy (Paperback)
Nautica and Khia are cousins working at Red's Chicken Shack scheming on the manager for some extra loot. Basically, they're two hood chicks looking for a way out of the ghetto. Nautica finds her mark in Zion and enjoys the fringe benefits of being a major baller's lady even when she has to suffer through his jealous rages and backhand slaps. A bag full of money, death and murders left behind finds Nautica in search of a safe haven and a fresh beginning.

Tical Manny has amassed his millions through the drug trade and is ready to relinquish his throne and live a comfortable life. A chance meeting at a party and he and Nautica become inseparable. Just as Nautica finds her confidence in their relationship and her title as first lady, someone from her past enters the picture. Tical's friends already have doubts about Nautica, and with the introduction of a new member to their crew and the familiar interaction with Nautica further increases their curiosity. Secondary character, Millie, was the most developed individual and has piqued my interest long after the story has ended....hint...hint.

JaQuavis Coleman's independent venture is as successful as past joint endeavors known as the renowned Ashley JaQuavis. The Dopeman's Wife only reinforces his natural skills in creativity, originality, and is strengthening his legacy while bringing greater notoriety to urban lit. I found this to be a fascinating read, with just enough suspense to have you reading rapidly toward a very unorthodox and unpredicatable ending. I commend JaQuavis on deviating his own path and blessing us with a full story, no sequel in sight. I look for more emotions in future endeavors to take away the raw edge and further enthrall the reader and no grammatical errors! I will never hesitate to purchase a read with this authors' stamp on it because I have the utmost faith in his delivery!!! Kudo's today, tomorrow and always!!! 4.35****

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book by one of the best!!!!!!!!, May 9, 2009
This review is from: The Dopeman's Wife: Part 1 of Dopeman's Trilogy (Paperback)
This book from page 1, grabs you and doesn't let you go. JaQuavis Coleman is a great writer and this one is a classic. Tical was a man that I fell in love with and the twist at the end i couldn't never guess. Hated the way it ended, but in all it was a great book. JaQuavis did a great job on his first solo project. I love everything Ashley and JaQuavis do, together or apart. GO BUY THIS BOOK!! It was worth every penny

4.0 out of 5 stars JaQuavis struct RICH with this!!!, July 11, 2009
This review is from: The Dopeman's Wife: Part 1 of Dopeman's Trilogy (Paperback)
I have purchased a few books since Torn by Keyshia Ervin and have been a little dissapointed by some of the material i've read so I was hesitant on this book. But I have heard so, so many great things about this Author let alone the book and gave him a try for the first time.

Let's just say I finished this in 2 days due to a hectic work schedule, but I couldn't wait to get comfy in my bed and escape to this world of The Dopeman's Wife...A-M-A-ZING!!! This can definitely be scripted as a movie because this book had me hurt, angry, laughing, and shedding a few tears with this immaculate story line.
This is not only for us females who is a huge supporter of this genre but for the men as well, definitely one to add to your personal library...get wit it!!!

By the way...visit my website at kayluvnyc.com, muah! ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars What! What!, May 5, 2009
This review is from: The Dopeman's Wife: Part 1 of Dopeman's Trilogy (Paperback)
Dopeman's Wife was str8 fiya! There is no other way to describe this fantastic read. From the very first page when naughty Nautica was scheming to the very last sentence I was into this book. It was glued to my hand and I did not put it down until it was over. This book is like a roller coaster ride. It played with my emotions and made my heart drop in the process and the twists and turns kept me in suspense. Just when I thought I knew what would happen next the entire book would change pace and throw me for a loop. Tical was my favorite character. He was so smooth and so fine. He was a thug with a business man's finesse and made all the girl's panties get wet, but he only had eyes for his leading lady Nautica. Unfortunately for Nautica sleeping dogs wouldn't lie because her past came back to bite her in the butt big time. When Loon showed up at her man's door the blackmail and torture began. This was an original read and there was not a bland moment in the book. Don't sleep on this one. JaQuavis is one of the best authors out. Hands down, the best book of the year so far!

5.0 out of 5 stars The life of a Dopeman's Wife...., May 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Dopeman's Wife: Part 1 of Dopeman's Trilogy (Paperback)
I have always loved the novels by Ashely & Jaquavis. Jaquavis did his thing in this solo effort. I literally could not put this book down it was HOT!!!
Nautica starts off as a stripper/fast food worker who is looking for a way to come up. Nautica hits the jackpot, scores some major cash and has to flee Flint in a hurry. Nautica heads to Baltimore and soon meets and falls in love with Tical Manny, Tical is the MAN in BMORE and he is holding down the drug game and making millions in the process. Nautica and Tical are soon in love and living together. Only Tical thinks Nautica is sweet and naive to the street life. Nautica's past will come knocking at her door and she will go to great lengths to keep Tical from knowing the truth!!
I can't say anything about this novel that wasn't already said but it is worth the money and it is a good read! I am hoping that there will be a sequel if possible!
The ending caught me off gaurd and was shocking!! This is what I call real street fiction!

She didnt leave a good impression and was not memorable so I think I'll pass on that one, and I wish Ashley and JaQuavis would stop killing everyone....it's depressing!

I'm over here like did I really purchase this book based off of these reviews????? I mean this book is horrible!!!! I can't even finish it. The grammatical errors, the unnecessary characters, the weak storyline, and I'm tired of reading about these gullible trusting supposed big time druglords!!!! This story was so unbelievable....I started laughing as a threw it across the room!!!! I'm done purchasing this authors books.
I mean he had the opportunity to really give us readers a good book...I mean based on the title of the book and these reviews one would have thought when purchasing they picked up a page turner! Wrong!!!! Wrong!!!! Wrong!!!! I just wasted my eyeballs on this crap...I missed out on a good nap!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars My mama said, August 16, 2010
This review is from: The Dopeman's Wife: Part 1 of Dopeman's Trilogy (Paperback)
If you have nothing good to say then say nothing at all. I'm taking her advice on this one even though I want to scream plenty obscenities at the poor all around development of this book.

Okay, okay, I'm going to say one thing. My mama would bust me until the white meat showed if she got wind of this but here goes: When was she ever the dopeman's wife and which dopeman? I know that's two things but if i'm going to get in trouble by my mama then I may as well go out with a bang

5.0 out of 5 stars You will not put it down, July 2, 2010
This review is from: The Dopeman's Wife: Part 1 of Dopeman's Trilogy (Paperback)
Okey Okey...I am all about the urban books, but this one is by far one of the BEST I have read. Like the other said, you are sinked in from the first page and will find yourself unable to stop reading (almost had an accident reading in the car). Ussually books have a boring beginning, middle or ending...there is none of that here...its a non stop swirl of things going on and your emotions will be put to the test...I highly recomend it (could be read in a day or 2 depending on how much time you have).
