U-God With A Vengeance,
By 1Dub79 (Fairburn, Ga.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dopium (Audio CD)
The last couple of U-God albums were not all that hot. This album is VERY complete. U-God has simplified his lyrics and the production is great. The only thing I do not like about the album are the remixes. I really don't count that. Of the 11 orginal songs, nine are great. Having nine good songs on an album makes it slammin.' If you were doubting if U-God would come back strong, he has proved all of his critics wrong with this album. If you saw his documentary, he did promise a better upcoming album. I thank him for bringing out another hitting Wu-album.

You've never heard U-God like this before,
This review is from: Dopium (Audio CD)
U-God's had some ups and downs over the years, some real sucesses along the way, with some questionable moves. I noticed on the 8 Diagrams album that his style had improved dramatically.Dopium is easily the best material he's created. The title track, Dopium, is unbelievable. Lots of good guest appearances. There haven't been many Wu-Tang albums lately that are on par with this one.

3rd solo is his best - 4.5 stars,

This review is from: Dopium (Audio CD)
Almost 4 years since his last solo album (also a very solid one in "Mr. X-Citement" and 10 years since his mediocre debut "Golden Arms Redemption", I don't own his "Hillside Scramblers" group album), the perhaps, most quiet member of the Wu returns with a very good 4.5 star album. I've always been a fan of his unique voice, which I think goes very well with mor eupbeat thracks, hence why I am more of a fan of this and his "Mr. X-Citement" albums. This one is shorter than his others, with only 11 songs (the last 3 are just remixes of other songs on the album). Of the 11, 2 are almost classic material and the other 9 are good, or real good songs. Guests are on 8 of the 11 so you don't get as much of U-God as you might want. Production is very good as well. Teddy Ted & J Serbe do 4 songs, Twilite Tone does 2, 4th Pyramid, Hakim, Large Professor, Da Beathoven & Andre Clarke each do 1. For fans of U-God or the Wu, pick this up.#1 - 9.5 (f/ Ghostface Killah & Scotty Wotty -- tight beat) #2 - 9 (f/ Cappadonna & Killah Priest -- deeper song) #3 - 8.5 (f/ Scotty Wotty & GZA) #4 - 8.5 (f/ Mike Ladd -- upbeat song) #5 - 9 (f/ Raekwon & Slaine -- nice beat) #6 - 9.5 (f/ Jim Jones & Sheek -- nice upbeat song) #7 - 8.5 (another upbeat song with an annoying hook) #8 - 8.5 (f/ Method Man) #9 - 8 #10 - 8.5 (f/ Leatha Face -- upbeat track) #11 - 8.5 Lamont Hawkins -- b. 11/10/70 -- Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY Check all my reviews
