Great CD from a Very Promising Band.,

This CD is a very complex piece of work. It's definitely got footing in prog/experimental rock, but it also has flourishses in emo/hardcore (thankfully not too much), pop hooks, and some 80's hair metal. It's amazing how even though it's the same thing each time you listen to it, it has such an amazing energy that never really leaves, you'll keep noticing little nuances that are great. The band itself is amazing. Thomas Erak (Vox/Guitar) is sheer brilliance, definitely one of the most talented guitarists I have ever heard, especially considering that he is not only doing some serious guitar work, but singing at the same time. The bass is exceptional as well, with alot of nice chords that really bring out the percussion from the drummer, who is also very talented. It's a little disappointing, though, that these guys are being fairly overlooked by the public. I don't know what's up, but these guys definitely deserve some serious attention, definitely more than any of those hardcore/emo/metalcore bands such as underoath, who merely feign emotion, while these guys are true brilliant, blistering, beautiful emotion. A must have for any music fan who is looking for new talent.

I cam across the Fall of Troy through myspace. I listened to their song PT 5, and was amazed at the talent these guys.
Before that, I was very into the Mars Volta. I still am, but as time went on, I got more and mroe into the Fall of Troy. I eventually bought the cd, and listened to it. Now, reguardless, I listen to all of Doppleganger, each day. I can't help it, they are so great. I didn't expect this band to actually entertain me, especially with their live work. They are an amazing band, and everybody else, who thinks otherwise, should just stick to their metalcore and rap. No reason for your lack o musical tastee to interfere with peple who have potential of lisntieng to one of the best bands to arise today

Fall of Troy and my ears. A match made in heaven. After cruising around on purevolume.com and equalvision.com checking these guys out I knew this was a must have. I purchased this cd in September of 05 and still listen to it(or their self title cd) almost everyday. For some reason I am unable to get bored with any of their cds. Intricately layered guitar work, unbelievable impeccablely timed drumming, pulsating bass, and all over the place vox. Very mathematical. They make it seem so easy to make music this good. It's hard to compare this to anything, there are so many different genres involved. I guess if I had to pigeonhole this, I would call it experimental hardcore/heavy metal/metalcore. Sounds like a much crazier version of Refused. Vicious, brutal and at times peaceful. If I had to recommend a cd of FOT's to begin with for newbies try Doppleganger. It's not any better than their self title, just mastered better. NOW STOP READING AND GET TO BUYING!

The most technical music since van halen!!,

Thomas Erak really showed his talent in this amazing record. Though some songs are re-recorded from their old self-titled album, the recordings are much better. I was blown away when I looked at the guitar tab for "Mouths like Sidewinder Missiles"-It is hard to imagine how a guitar player who has only been playing for 5 years can sing and play guitar like that at the same time. here is my review on the cd:
-I Just Got This Symphony Goin' 10/10 The guitar in the intro of this song is amazing. - Act One, Scene One 10/10 One of the catchiest songs of the album that makes you want to shake your head when the singer goes into a screaming fit. -F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. 9/10 Great single but it gets somewhat old after listening to it for a month staright. -You got a deathwish Johnny Truant? 10/10 Short but sweet. -Mouths like sidewinder missiles 15/10 amazing, catchy song with awesome guitar riffs. -The Hol[ ]y Tape 9/10 sweet intro, good song -Laces Out, Dan! 9/10 good vocals, catchy -We Better Learn To Hotwire A Uterus 8/10 great song off the old cd -Whacko Jacko Steals The Elephant Man's Bones 11/10 SWEET SONG OF OLD CD!! - Tom Waits 7/10 gets a slight listen, not as catchy as some of the other songs -Macaulay McCulkin 9/10 decent song that you have to make sure to listen to before turning off the cd. BUY THE CD....YOU WONT BE SORRY!!!

This is by far my favorite band, but it is also not the only thing I listen to. When I first heard this band (FCPREMIX) I didn't like it at all, but after listening to that ten times I was instantly (sort of) obsessed with the band. I would suggest listening to the songs in a certain order, gradually let yourself into the screaming.
FCPREMIX-> "You got a Deathwish Johnny Truant?"-> Act One, Scene One-> Whacko Jacko-> Then you're pretty much into it enough to not be shocked.

So Energetic!,

This CD is amazing, so much energy. Could never live up to the live performances but its still fantastic. It does recycle old songs from their self-titled but they are re-recorded and remixed, i feel that the remastering of the old songs are better. True you lose some of the energy becuase it was more rehershed, but the sound quality is much better. The new songs on the cd are just as good as the original, fit in seamlessly. I would suggest the ST first the Doppleganger. Act One Scene One is just so great. These guys know how to play their instruments. Very technical, fast, hard, and energetic. If you like screamo, hardcore with progressive and experiemental undertones then this is the cd for you!

I know they wanted to take advantage of having access to better resources, so they re-recorded a lot of tracks. I thought they got
it right the first time (with the exception of the fcp-whatever remix. I know they've got a lot of other great stuff they didn't use. Doppelganger (great title), is still a hell of a cd. A lot of hints of Mars Volta creativity, with the manic screaming kind of like the Blood Brothers, and there young. It's going to be interesting to see what they come out with in the future, and Erak's guitar playing is only going to get better. If you liked/disliked the review let me know, thank you

Wow. The Fall of Troy absolutely blew me away with their cd, and then with their show. It is very good prog-type rock/metal-ish music, and it sounds very "busy" through a lot of the album, which I really enjoyed. Altough yes, they truly don't sound too much like the Mars Volta, one definitely gets that vibe through some of their songs. There is a definite connection, i'll say that.
I absolutely recommend the album, if only for the first five songs. Because it's still worth it. haha

God Given Talent,
By
This review is from: Doppelganger (Dig) (Audio CD)
This album is the second (certaintly not the last) by my favorite local band, The Fall of Troy. In the group of three contains probably one with the most talented guitarists I have ever seen live (the other being Omar of The Mars Volta). Oh yeah, he also sings and screams. Thomas Erak has amazing talent in that 20 year old body. I first experienced it listening to their S/T. In that cd it sounded like Thomas's fingers could not stay still. His guitar riffs overlaped 4 or 5 times, which seemed to mute Tim's bass and Andrew's drums.
Fast foward to now, and they finally seem to come together as a band. All the instruments seem synced, and I can really start to enjoy Tim and Andrew's playing abilities. Thomas still has some amazing solos, but for the most part they have seemed to mature into a solid band. Tune into We Better Learn To Hotwire A Uterus, Tom Waits, and Macaulay McCulkin to hear Thomas at his best. The only reason why I gave this cd a 4/5 is because of the fact that I have heard 7 of the 11 songs on the album. Tracks 1, 3, 5, and 9 are all remastered songs from their s/t, and tracks 7, 9, and 11 were all on a limited release demo. Check this band out if your a fan of Chidios, Minus the Bear, Every Time I Die, The Mars Volta, At the Drive-In, etc.

I only recently heard of The Fall Of Troy from their F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. appearance in Guitar Hero III. I immediately wanted to hear more of their material and purchased Doppleganger. Each track was a blistering mastery of guitar work, and it really is the gift that keeps on giving: each go-around of the tracks reveals more and more, like a movie that you watch a hundred times... you always notice something different. Thomas' every riff seems to be a calculated move, executed with precision and tact. Try to think of Omar Rodriguez Lopez with a over-domineering left brain - It's crazy.
Very much like The Mars Volta, it's a bit creepy to absorb this CD as I prepare for TMV's new release (January 2008). After hearing the CD for the first time I quickly read the credits to see if Cedric sat in on any of the tracks. Thomas Erak has an amazing voice, and I can very safely say that this trio of kids are direct descendants of The Mars Volta, and At The Drive-In, with even more screamo in the mix. I also hear a little of The Refused. |
