The kids and I love this cookbook. It's very easy to follow. The recipes are very simple and common but with a mexican twist. Love the graphics! The kids can really relate. Two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Man Cooking October 15, 2010

This cookbook will be prefect for my grandson who will soon be 4. The recipes and pictures really help to get an idea of what it is and what it is suppose to look like when it is done.

3.0 out of 5 stars cute, but... October 21, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an adorable book for the Dora or Diego fan. Very colorful, with a wide variety of healthy food. But some of the recipes are so overly simple that I ended up feeling sort of dumb for buying this....some items aren't so much recipes as suggestions for putting simple foods together.

However, perhaps seeing Dora and Diego eating vegetables will inspire my little one. And all the gang: Swiper, the Fiesta Trio and Benny the Bull are inside with their 'favorites'. It's very safety conscious, and if my son really ate this healthy I'd be pleased.

Keep in mind this is more for building 'kitchen enthusiasm' than really cooking. It would be cute if they offered it with little D & D measuring cups or an apron....

3.0 out of 5 stars An edit or two away from greatness July 27, 2012
Format:Hardcover
The good: Dora and Diego cooking means you get a multi-cultural, healthy look at food, some Spanish vocabulary, and a very attractive book. It's bound to lie flat, very good when following a recipe, and has a sturdy cover that will stand up to lots of time in the kitchen.

Not so good: The book has ingredient lists, but not equipment lists, and some of the pieces of equipment are not things I normally have around the kitchen. Cheesecloth? Seriously? Of course one should always read a recipe all the way through before attempting it, but in a book designed to have kids follow steps, selecting the equipment from the list would have been a logical step. In addition, some of the recipes take hours because of prep time (waiting for geletin to firm, for example) and cooking time estimates are not there. Again, I KNOW how to cook and how to follow a recipe, but the target audience is still learning, and these things should be made clear.

There's a good section for parents on the science one can learn from cooking, and several lists of age appropriate skills (e.g. a 2 year old probably can scrub vegetables, a five year old can probably do that PLUS these other skills).

There's a section near that, though, that addresses the kids and is in the EXACT same font, layout, and sophisticated sentence length and vocabulary. It's addressed to the users of this book, preschool to K, but could not be used by most preschoolers or kindergarteners.

The recipes are very simple and appropriate for preschoolers, pretty, and encourage healthful eating habits. They are sophisticated enough, though, that my 7 year old is enjoying this book with her best friend, who is 7 1/2.

5.0 out of 5 stars My three year old loved it April 6, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this for Christmas for my (then) two year old. He absolutely loved it. The recipes all come with their own picture. They are easy to follow and have special stars to let you know which are generally good to let your child do to help. Sure some are easy (such as lemonaid) and didn't really require a recipe to do, but still he gets such a kick out of following it out of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an awesome cookbook for kids March 20, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I got this as a present for my 2 year-old granddaughter and 4 year-old grandson. The book clearly tells you in the front what kinds of kitchen skills are appropriate for each age level. I found that very helpful. My grandchildren love to cook with me and with Mommy. The recipes are healthy and kid-friendly. The Dora and Diego characters help attract the kids too.
