Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures,

This review is from: Dora the Explorer: Animal Adventures (CD-ROM)
Software is poor, tried on 3 different computers the cd won't run on any of them. Atari must know about the problem because the web site list what the computer does, but no solution to the problem. Its a waste of time and money.

We are now on our 2nd disc and both did not work in my computer which is just a few years old. Never had a problem with any other software. Stay away from this game!!!

Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures makes an excellent beginner game. The characters speak slowly, and the instructions are thorough, in my opinion probably a too comprehensive. For instance, after you sign-in, the characters introduce themselves, and they explain about the big storm. It takes them 2 long minutes! That's a lot of time. I've found it's easier for this age group to listen to short explanations, so they can get on with game. If they're having problems, further instruction is always welcomed. Fortunately, you can click the mouse and skip over the narration in the replay.
Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures is recommended for children 3 to 5-years. I think a 2½ year old could easily handle level 1 on this game, especially in the River Rapids Rescue game. This is my son's least favorite, because it's the least challenging. All you do is move the mouse and click somewhere within 6" vicinity, so Dora can jump over the logs in the river. The visual spotting games are fun for little ones too. Once the animals are discovered they put-on a silly performance that young children find amusing. For example, the Fruit Bat puts on a hat of fruit and dances. The Caimen stands up and brushes his teeth. My son actually laughs aloud. The game offers lots of encouragement as well. For instance, Dora will shout "great idea," or Diego will say, "excelente." Just like the television series, the Fiesta Trio will play a little ditty at the end of each game. In our house, computer time is an earned privilege, thus some weeks he plays, while others he doesn't. When he does play, he's not allowed to sit at the computer for hours at a time, as his gaming time is limited. I like that my son instantly understood this game, so it's intuitive. I also appreciate the educational, and bilingual features. One could literally learn interesting facts about 2 dozen different animals. I'm not sure how far the game counts, but I know my 4-year old has collected at least 40 stars, because I heard him count to 40 in Spanish. Bottom line, William enjoys the Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures game. Even though it's not his favorite computer game, he does request it. It think 3-year old children are the prime target market, but older children just starting to play computer games would enjoy it as well. I definitely think I got my money's worth!

I installed this computer on a Gateway 700S and it doesn't work at all. I went to Atari's technical support and followed the suggestions for updating video, sound, and DirectX, which didn't help at all. Now I have a game I can't return and can't play.

Dora's Animal Adventure,

My little boy loves this software. He is a huge fan of Dora and was extremely excited to play this. He is only 2 years old and has learned to play it well. At first it was a little bit hard but he liked it so much he kept trying. There are lots of different activities. I even found my six year old son playing it. I didn't feel that it was too hard at all for the age that it was intended for. I didn't have any of the problems the other reviewers were talking about.

Dora Fan,

Don't waste your money. Any challenge is over the very first time your child will play it. All 3 difficulty levels are almost the same and the whole game is so repetitive. Big disappointment.

I don't usually write reviews, but I feel like this game has been sold short. My 4 year old daughter loves it! My 4 year old son loves to watch her play it as he is still frustrated by using the mouse. I would recommend it highly.

A little disappointed,

My son is 3 1/2 and loves Dora, but this game was way too easy for him. Don't believe the 3-5 yr age range. The games are pretty repetitive and not very challenging. There's really not that much more to it than what you can get for free from the nickjr.com website. This would probably be better suited for a younger child with a shorter attention span. My son does play it, but we usually whip through all the games pretty quickly and he loses interest.

BUGGS,
This review is from: Dora the Explorer: Animal Adventures (CD-ROM)
We found this game would not play on my new dell computer and only played on my husband's new alienware system with choppy sound and graphics - and he bought this computer specifically for gaming. So I think the software must be defective. We have backpack and lost city also - they play well and my son (2.5) likes them both, but i found that with lost city all the games were about numbers - ignoring other concepts like colors, letters and shapes. Try this software at your own risk, maybe they will fix the bugs. I found tech support to be a frustrating, time consuming experience with an automated system that was confusing and annoying. Good luck.

Game is nice, Keydisk is hard for 3 year old,
This review is from: Dora the Explorer: Animal Adventures (CD-ROM)
The game is simple but there are a number of things for my 3 year old to do. My big complaint about this game is the fact it has a key disk that must be in the cd drive for the game to run. Key disks are such a hassle for 3 year olds who you don't want opening and closing the cd tray on your computer. I'd like to just have an icon on the desktop she can click to run the game.. Can't happen when she needs to put the disk in the CD player. Frustrating.
