I bought this bag for my 2-year-old son. Dora the Explorer is one of his favorite TV programs broadcasting in Taiwan. This bag is small but fit his little toys. I think it's a good bag for little kids.

This item just arrived, a gift for my 2 year-old son. He was thrilled when he saw it. It was therefore terribly upsetting to discover the following warning (in tiny print) on one of the product labels: "WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm." This warning follows the requirements of California Proposition 65 (ample material about it on the web). This warning is, of course, unacceptably vague. However, no caring parent would risk exposing their child to a toxic substance. This morning, my son woke up asking for his backpack. I am saddened, angered, and frustrated that he and I have been put in this position by inadequate regulation of toy safety (the backpack is made in China) and inadequate disclosure (both on the toy tag and on the Amazon website) identifying the specific potential risk.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but small, January 11, 2007
By
I bought this bag for my 3 year old daughter this Christmas. She loves Dora and has been asking for this backpack for the longest time. She was thrilled when she got it but when she wanted to put a book in it and a folder, they didn't fit. It's quite small and when you put something a little heavy in it, the magnetic closing comes open. So all in all, if your kid will use it for play, it's fine. But if you're thinking of using it as a real backpack for school let's say, then look at a bigger one than this.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY, October 7, 2010

I was so excited to give this toy to my 3 year old who LOVES dora and backpack. It is an adorable looking backpack...everything we wanted. But after I opened it, I just happened to read the tag on it and in very small print it reads, "Warning! This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm." I cannot believe that this product is being sold with such a warning! I immediately put it back in its package and am sending it back. Global Design Concepts makes this product and I have tried to call them about it but I never can talk to a person. So, please beware if you choose to buy this!

I found the site clarifying the nature of the toxic material mentioned by other reviewers:
[...]

It does not violate toy safety law, but the chemical is toxic. This is a chemical present in countless consumer products.

My three-year-old requested a "Dora packpack".

I looked in my local stores. I really didn't want something with Dora's face plastered all over it. So, I looked here on Amazon and found this. I like it because if you aren't familiar with Dora you'd just look at it and think "cute backpack."

It's relatively small. But her blankie fits into it fine. We use it mostly for bringing her bathing suit and other clothes over to daycare. At home she fills it up with toys.

It fits my skinny three-year old well. She can get into it by herself.

The face is embroidered into the bag. The map is attached to a piece of elastic, so it won't be going anywhere. My only complaint is that the magnets that hold the flap down aren't very strong. It pops open very easily. The magnets are inside two layers of fabric with a plush nap on it.

We haven't washed it yet, but it looks like it could handle a delicate cycle in the wash.

Returned this right away after seeing the tag on the bottom that states that it is made with a chemical known to cause birth defects and cause reproductive defects. shame on this manufacturer and shame on amazon for selling it

This Dora Backpack is a soft velvety cloth. Comfy to wear around constantly like our granddaughter did when she first got it. Not heavy or hard. Comes with Map! She love's it!

My 2 yr old granddaughter got this in her Easter basket and loves it; she carries her Dora, Boots & Swiper beanie babies in it and also pulls out Map and sings the little tune; after watching all the Dora DVD's with backpack, this is a must; I chose this backpack over the talking one b/c she could actually wear this one like a backpack and get some use out of it; she has the Dora CD that plays all the Dora tunes and when the backpack song comes on, she will get her backpack and put it on.

My daughter LOVES her Dora backpack. It isn't heavy, like most backpacks she would carry around on her back. She can put some books in it, her Boots stuffed animal, and other things. She brings it with her everywhere. We cut the string that was attached to the Map so she could use it easier.
