4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value for Money
I recently purchased my second "Dora Saves the Mermaids" toy for a friend's daughter. Although I feel that the value for money is good, I must warn that the batteries for the Dora Mermaid doll are quite expensive (around $15-$18). I have also encountered a flaw in both toys that I've purchased. On both Dora Mermaid dolls (from the two separate toys I've purchased) I've...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Bang for the buck
This is a great set for the price. We paid $20 with shipping. It came with Dora and 3 other mermaids. I only have one complaint. It's difficult to get the 3 mermaids feet in the base. My 5yr old can't do it. She does enjoy dressing and undress the 3 mermaids.

On both Dora Mermaid dolls (from the two separate toys I've purchased) I've noticed that the long skirt has trouble moving up. It is supposed to turn into a mini-skirt when you press a button. On my daughter's doll I have to manually help the skirt move up. I was hoping this would not be the case for the toy I purchased as a gift, but it was worse. The skirt wouldn't move up, not matter what I tried. That was not good, considering it was a gift. But I must still re-iterate that it is a good value for the money you spend.

When this box arrived, I thought I must have mistakenly hit Amazon's one-click ordering box for a printer, car battery or TV set. To my surprise, it was the set of four Dora dolls along with the subterranean accouterments / furniture comprising her underwater royal realm. I assumed it would be a set of miniatures, but these are well-fed, sizable specimens--all three of them. Had they been shipped via Amazon Prime, I'd have ordered a few more for young adventurous heroines not averse to salvaging Ariel and friends from the earth's increasingly polluted waters. Even so, the postage isn't bad and, considering the price of the individual Doras, this is an undeniable deal, guaranteed to bring smiles to all the granddaughters whose heads these days appear to be filled with Ariels and Doras. What an ingenious idea on the part of the manufacturer to combine the two--sort of like getting a single comic book featuring both Batman and Superman, or Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. No wonder this excites kids!

I was momentarily hesitant about rating the educational value of the item, since printed in large letters on the outside of the box is the following description: "Dora's Saves the Mermaids." I'm all for teaching youngsters, many of whom have already been jaded by text messaging and chatroom prose, that the apostrophe is not as yet extinct, but let's have Dora save the mermaids first. Then when her self-esteem is sufficiently reinforced, slip in a lesson or two on the proper uses of the apostrophe. (Or perhaps Dora's next adventure will consist of teaching her makers some grammar.)

This product comes with Mermaid Dora, three extra dolls and the salon chair....all for under $20 with shipping!!! I'm so excited about giving this gift to my almost three year old daughter on Christmas morning. She is the world's BIGGEST Dora fan, so I know she'll just love this set. The product was shipped very quickly and received just a few days after ordering. I would recommend this seller to anyone. Thank you Webs Best Deals :-)

This toy came in a special edition that included the beauty set and three extra dolls (Mariana, Rainbow, and Coral). It is a great value to receive all that is included for a price that was less than just the Dora Saves the Mermaids set at most other merchants. My 3 year old granddaughter loved the set. She especially likes having Dora on the base and watching her turn around, raise her hands, and sing while her skirt extends down and becomes her mermaid tail. It also does the reverse if you leave her on the platform and push the button again. She loves to put each doll on the platform and have them talk and sing. She likesDora The Explorer - Dora's Saves the Mermaids being able to take each doll and play with them off the pedastal just like regular dolls. She places them on the beauty chair and "fixes" their hair with the combs and mirror that comes with the set. This is a good buy for any little girl that loves Dora or anything to do with Mermaids.

4.0 out of 5 stars Girls seem to love this toy, June 16, 2009

We originally bought one for my daughter for Christmas, and it was the most fought over toy, that I ended up buying this complete set for my nieces. Afterwards a close friend was playing with my daughter, and once again they fought over this toy, so I bought another set for my friend's daughter. Unfortunately, the third set, the Dora doesn't quite work correctly (the mermaid doesn't turn into a girl - by having the skirt go up and down). But the first two had no problems, just the third, so I'm not sure what that says about quality of the product. But the 3-5 year old set seems to really love this toy.

This is all my daughter wanted for Christmas. I think the commercials did great making it look like the coolest toy ever. She loves it, but only plays with it occasionally. Funny Girl. I am worried that the skirt/tail will break if played with too hard. It hasn't yet. But, I won't be surprised. I loved getting this from amazon because we got ALOT of dolls that can play together:)
